This year’s LoL competition at the Esports World Cup is nearing its end, with only the grand final and third-place decider matches remaining. The tournament has been full of surprises thus far, including G2’s shock success. The biggest surprise however is likely Anyone’s Legend’s smooth climb to the grand final. Now only Gen.G stands between the LPL team and the Esports World Cup trophy, but does AL have what it takes to break Gen.G’s impressive winning streak?
Betting tip: Despite AG.AL’s recent performance, Gen.G has the form and international experience to make it the team to side with here.
It’s no surprise that Gen.G continues to be the favorite to win the entire tournament. The team smoothly won both the most recent LCK split and the Mid-Season Invitational without losing a single match, and it’s still going strong. The squad’s star player may be mid laner Chovy, but he isn’t the only one who consistently shows up in each and every match. Duro’s support play is crucial to ensure the team can stack kills, and that has worked so far. Canyon is a strong jungler who prioritizes objectives and ensures his teammates can get kills.
When facing against AG.AL, the team will likely want to come more prepared, and this means banning or prioritizing champions like Yorick and Alistar, and trying to direct more kills to ADC Ruler. Isolating Hope will likely be a good tactic, and Gen.G will want to utilize the biggest advantage it has relative T1, who AL just defeated, which is a significantly more reliable top laner.
Fortunately for AG.AL, Flandre is no slouch either, suggesting this is a series that may go the distance.

Anyone’s Legend has continued to improve with every game. While the team still shows some gaps in its gameplay, it has proven more than a match for some of the best League of Legends teams in the world. Shanks brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team, which is arguably the reason AG.AL has seen such drastic improvements over the course of this year. With the lack of relative international experience slowly being overcome, Flandre and Kael have shown much better performances at EWC than at MSI, newly making them forces to be reckoned with.
AL won against HLE and T1 by being completely prepared. With champion drafts that have proven successful against two top LCK teams, Anyone’s Legend capitalized on those teams’ weaknesses and won as a result. The issue with relying on the same tactic against Gen.G is that few champion compositions have worked against the reigning MSI championship squad. Add the fact that Hope doesn’t have the same carry potential as does Ruler, and that Gen.G is more protective of Ruler than T1 was of Gumayusi, and AG.AL may have a tougher time here.
| Gen.G | Anyone’s Legend |
|---|---|
| Kiin – Top | Flandre – Top |
| Canyon – Jungler | Tarzan – Jungler |
| Chovy – Mid | Shanks – Mid |
| Ruler – ADC | Hope – ADC |
| Duro – Support | Kael – Support |
| Metric | Gen.G | Anyone’s Legend | Edge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Map winrate | 73% | 68% | Gen.G |
| First blood | 53.3% | 61.7% | AL |
| First Tower | 64.5% | 69.6% | AL |
Anyone’s Legend only played Gen.G once, and that was at the recent MSI event where Gen.G walked away as the victor.
Gen.G remains on a strong winning streak, with the team winning against each and every opposing team it faces.
By contrast, Anyone’s Legend struggled near the end of MSI, but has shown incredible improvement in this EWC competition.

Anyone’s Legend has performed extremely well recently. It utilized its mechanical skills and tactics to win against some of the tournament’s favorites. However, the same may be tough to achieve here against Gen.G. The reigning MSI champion has fewer weaknesses for AG.AL to capitalize on, and Gen.G will likely come in with its own game plan. With Gen.G less likely to fold under pressure if things start going south, its superior international experience may be what tips the scales in its favor.
Our Gen.G vs AG.AL prediction: Gen.G as the match winner 3-2 at 1.59 odds at GG.BET.
