The LCK 2025 rounds 1-2 tournament’s eighth week will kick off with a rematch between top contenders Gen.G and Hanwha Life Esports. Gen.G came out on top last time, and smart betters will want to know the likelihood of it happening again.
Slowly but surely, the ongoing LCK split is nearing their end. With only two weeks left to go, fans have seen some of the strongest Korean League of Legends teams duke it out on the big stage with the leaders now firmly established. Gen.G and Hanwha Life Esports have consistently led the standings in the top two and have already qualified for the Road to MSI playoff.
While Gen.G doesn’t have much to worry about here, HLE has seen some lows in the LCK. The team lost to Gen.G in the tournament’s first match and later lost again, this time to KT Rolster. The best way to bounce back from those defeats would be to defeat Gen.G as week eight kicks off.
It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that Gen.G has showcased a nearly flawless performance during this LCK split. The team hasn’t lost a single match and has only lost three games in total, comfortably picking apart every team it faces. Arguably more impressive is the fact that Gen.G still seems to be improving as the tournament proceeds, as suggested by how Gen.G somewhat struggled against a tilted T1 at the start of the tournament before destroying them with a convincing 2-0 score last week.
Gen.G’s Canyon and Chovy have the most carry potential on the team. Their jungle and mid synergy shines in every match, and the results include better objective acquisitions for Gen.G paired with more successful ganks. Ruler and Duro have also shown an impressive performance in the bot lane, while Kiin hasn’t let the team down yet, even if his performance sometimes seems lackluster relative to his high-performing teammates.
Then there’s Hanwha Life Esports. The First Stand winners may have lost to Gen.G at the start of the tournament, but the team was on an undefeated throughout the rest of the split. That winning streak ended against KT Rolster, where most of HLE’s players were outplayed at every turn. Although Zeus, Zeka, and Viper are definitely stand-out players and have delivered multiple times in the LCK, the match against KT Rolster suggests the team may be somewhat unreliable as the split comes to a close.
Below are the rosters for both teams:
Gen.G:
Hanwha Life Esports:
Gen.G has a habit of experimenting with its drafts when against a team it’s confident it can take out. While the stakes aren’t high for the squad here, there’s a real chance Gen.G will go for its strongest compositions to ensure that it remains undefeated. The compositions will likely include picks like Gwen, Rumble, Xin Zhao, Skarner, Naafiri, Ahri, Miss Fortune, Jhin, Rakan, Nautilus, and Alistar.
Picks like Jayce, Xin Zhao, Sylas, and Renata Glasc are HLE’s bread and butter and will likely see a chance to shine against Gen.G. Champions like Ambessa, Sejuani, and Azir may also get picked, even if they aren’t as frequently chosen.
Gen.G has gone undefeated in the LCK and hasn’t lost a single match this split. Below are the team’s last five matches.
Hanwha Life Esports began this split on a poor note, but came back much stronger before dropping a recent series to KT.
Gen.G and Hanwha Life Esports have faced off against each other on the big stage 32 times. Out of that, Gen.G has won 25 times, giving the team a significant advantage in its record against HLE.
Considering Gen.G is leading the LCK with such dominance, it’s no surprise that it’s the favorite to win with a betting line of 1.45 compared to HLE’s 2.70.
Gen.G continues to polish its newfound strategy throughout the LCK split, with the team performing better with each passing match. While Zeus is easily the player who has shown up the most in HLE, suggesting it may be more than a match for Gen.G’s Kiin, the other lanes may be tough for Hanwha Life.
Peanut may have displayed excellent jungling before, but he’s ultimately inconsistent with his performance as the match against KT Rolster proved. Gen.G’s Chovy, Canyon, and Ruler may prove to be too much for HLE with their aggressive roaming and laning, ensuring Gen.G’s winning streak continues.
