Gawr Gura of Hololive English has just announced her graduation.
Alongside Nijisanji, Hololive remains one of the biggest vtuber agencies in the world. With talents such as Hoshimachi Suisei achieving viral success through their music, the agency is a force in the industry. Among its talents, Gawr Gura boasted the highest subscriber count, with over 4.56 million subscribers.
Gura has also been used as the face of the company for major collaborations. Along with Usada Pekora and Hoshimachi Suisei, Gawr Gura collaborated with the Los Angeles Dodgers in a viral event. Unfortunately for fans, Gura’s streams began to dwindle in 2024, with one gap lasting three months.
The shark girl vtuber then gave fans an important announcement.
Gawr Gura will graduate from Hololive on May 1, 2025. In a stream titled “important announcement”, Gura announced she would officially graduate from Hololive in May. Much like previous graduates, Gura cited disagreements with the company’s direction as a reason for her exit from the company. She thanked fans for the honor of entertaining them and recounting her history with the company.
Gura emphasized that she still loved vtubing and being an idol. Gura also revealed she has one final project to show fans, and she’s optimistic about the future. Gura’s fans and fellow vtubers showed their support on social media, thanking her for the memories. Cover Corp soon followed with an official statement about Gura’s graduation.
The statement notably did not state that Gura will be an affiliate. Previous graduates such as Amelia Watson and Sakamata Chloe opted for that route, so that Cover Corp may continue using the character for promotional material. Cover Corp stated that there will be a separate announcement regarding Gawr Gura merchandise at another time.
With Gura’s graduation, Hololive English has lost three talents in a few months. While various reasons have led to these graduations, many fans were saddened by the back-to-back exits. Ceres Fauna graduated from Hololive in January 2025, while Nanashi Mumei will graduate in late April 2025.
Before her tenure in Hololive, Gura became a viral hit through her Senzawa channel, where she would upload meme videos and song covers. From time to time, Senzawa would post short messages on Twitter, even while Gura was an active member of Hololive.
Senzawa has not revealed any return plans as of this writing. While some fans who only followed Gura casually were surprised, some longtime members saw the writing on the wall. Some fans felt her health issues and dwindling number of streams hinted at Gura’s distancing from the company.
Hololive CEO Motoaki “Yagoo” Tanigo has responded to fan concerns regarding multiple graduations. He states that improvements are being made to the current system, to ensure that the talents are properly taken care of. In the meantime, he thanked fans for their continued support.
Gura’s graduation will undoubtedly spark discussion about the future of Hololive, as even the biggest talents find themselves separating from the company.
