The LEC Versus playoffs started with last year’s finalists at the bottom of the pack, looking like shadows of their former selves. Two matches later, G2 Esports and Movistar KOI are back to the top of the league, as if nothing happened.
In 2025, MKOI won against G2 in Spring, and G2 reclaimed the crown in Summer. Which of the two will prevail this time? Find out what to expect in our LEC Versus Playoffs upper finals preview.
G2 Esports’ regular season has been catastrophic for their standards. The team that has never missed the LEC playoffs only qualified on the very last game of the split. The samurais finished in 7th place while their previous worst regular season placement was 4th.

G2 went into their playoffs match against the first place Karmine Corp as complete underdogs, a rare occurrence in the organisation’s lifetime. Yet to many people’s surprise, G2 dismantled them. After already looking convincing against Team Heretics, they doubled down and showed that even the supposed strongest opponent wasn’t out of their league.
As for MKOI, they finished the regular season in an equally rough spot at 6-5. MKOI’s ensuing playoffs matches were more controversial, though. In their first game against Vitality, they started off far behind before a pause and chronobreak tilted VIT and gave MKOI room to catch their breath. In the end, Movistar KOI won in a 55-minute game, and stomped the next one as well as their following match against Natus Vincere.
Both of those teams look nothing like they did in the regular season. The former 6th and 7th place teams are now the two strongest contenders for the title. In the process, these two kicked all of the top 4 teams into the lower bracket. Three of them are already eliminated now – all besides KC.

History suggests a clear winner in G2. Since 2023, the samurai have had MKOI’s number 9 times out of their 12 playoffs encounters. In 2025, with both teams having the same roster as now, the score was once again 3-1 for G2.
The LoL betting odds for this match tell the same story. G2 has 1.61 odds, against 2.26 for Movistar. (Odds provided by GG.Bet on February 23rd).
It’s important to note that this match-up isn’t as clear-cut this year.
While both teams are neck-in-neck, G2 are the safer bet, being consistently great in the LEC playoffs.
