Fans had been eagerly awaiting the replacement for Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen in G2 Esports since the organization cut him from the team’s starting lineup, and G2 has now shocked fans with Janusz “snax” Pogorzelski standing as the team’s new captain.
G2 is undergoing a roster overhaul during this year’s summer off-season. The team earlier dropped Nemanja “nexa” Isaković and then benched in-game-leader HooXi, a move that fans had expected since G2’s triumph at IEM Dallas 2024. Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa took over nexa’s position, leaving the IGL role vacant, and it was temporarily filled by Nikola “NiKo” Kovač.
G2 Esports has now put an end to the rumors about Niko permanently taking over the IGL role by announcing the addition of snax, a major-winning rifler with a rich history as an IGL.
snax joins the G2 roster from GamerLegion, where he had been serving as team captain, a role he became well-acquainted with while at former team Virtus Pro. Despite snax not standing out during his time with GamerLegion, his performance with Virtus Pro was truly one for the history books. With the Polish player under its banner, Virtus Pro won the ELEAGUE Major Atlanta 2017 championship among other prominent titles in Counter-Strike.
Snax’s addition to G2 also signifies a reunion with team coach Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas. The two previously played together in one of CSGO’s longest-standing lineups at Virtus Pro from 2014 to 2018. For this reason, Snax’s introduction video featured the coach inviting him to “save G2,” an invitation he has clearly accepted.
Not all fans are convinced that snax is the right addition to the team because of a potential role clash with Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa, who was already having role issues with the team’s traditional source of firepower, NiKo. On the flip side, some believe that an improvement in overall team chemistry will ultimately lead to improved performance.
We’ll have to wait and see how valid the speculation around the new G2 CS2 roster turns out to be. All will become clear at the Esports World Cup, which is set to take place in Saudi Arabia from July 17-21 and where G2 Esports is expected to play.
