G2 Esports has been impressing fans with how good its patchwork lineup is playing in the BLAST Austin Major, but the team may be at the end of the line with a round five matchup against The MongolZ.

The G2 Esports roster for the major was only finalized weeks beforehand and there was limited time to practice. Never even mind getting actual matches in. Despite that, the team has been performing at a very high level in Austin. The team has already exceeded expectations, but it may all be too little too late as the team faces The MongolZ.
Betting tip: G2 Esports is being shown a lot of respect from bookmakers. You should too, but not as much.
My G2 Esports vs The MongolZ pick: The MongolZ wins 2-1 (3.24 at gg.bet)
When G2 Esports shipped Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov to Team Falcons, it was effectively the organization tapping out of the season. That was essentially confirmed when BLAST.tv let the news slip that G2 was set to get rid of two of its players following the major, including new addition Aleksander “hades” Miśkiewicz. There’s no reason for these players to really care about this major, but the squad is still bringing it, and getting surprisingly good results.
hades in particular is has impressed. Despite having a ticket back to Monte’s bench after this tournament, he’s looking the part of an AWPer for a tier-one team. Alongside him, each member of the G2 roster has had a game where they’ve fragged out, including Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski notching a monster performance against Pain Gaming. The team showed that its current lineup can seriously hang against high-end teams, pushing NaVi to the brink of defeat in a marathon.
It’s easy to get excited and potentially buy into G2 Esports. Don’t do it, though.
While G2 likely would’ve been the favorite in a round-five match against Legacy, Pain Gaming, or maybe even Virtus.pro, it drew The MongolZ. While The MongolZ took a surprise drubbing from FaZe Clan in its round-four matchup, the team’s overall body of work is beyond reproach. So too is its ability to consistently make the playoffs in prominent tournaments.
Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyljev was able to run wild against The MongolZ, but it’s unclear whether anyone on G2 is capable of putting on a s1mple-esque performance.

G2 has looked good enough that you should take them seriously, but The MongolZ is the decisive favorite for a good reason. When you’re checking out theGG.BET live odds, there are some lines related to G2 successes to consider but don’t bet against Asia’s top team.
