G2 Esports and NRG are set to clash in a high-stakes Middle Bracket match at VCT Americas Kickoff 2026.
The winner of the series will have a clear path to VCT Masters Santiago qualification, while the loser will be sent to the Lower Bracket, where they will be down to their last life.
G2 clearly remains as one of the strongest teams in the region, but the three-time champs have looked rather shaky after dropping a series against FURIA, who are considered one of the weakest teams heading into the event.
The current issue lies around the team’s star player Alexander “jawgemo” Mor, who hasn’t been performing up to his usual standards. The duelist finished with the lowest rating on the team across all three of their matches so far.
On the other hand, all members of the NRG roster are shooting. The team has looked sharp, aside from a close loss to MIBR – the new superteam in town. That series was one of the closest matches of the tournament so far and could have gone either way. So, there’s no shame for NRG in losing such a close series to a very worthy opponent.
Overall, we’ll give NRG the upper hand in terms of recent form heading into this matchup.
Even though NRG currently look like the better team, it’s very hard to ignore the head-to-head history between these two teams.
G2 have not lost a single series against NRG since 2024, and have a 5-0 record.
The two teams have faced each other five times over the past two seasons, including two Best of 5 matches that have gone 3-0 in favor of Jacob “valyn” Batio and the crew. Notably, the most recent matchup already featured Georgio “keiko” Sanassy on NRG’s roster, though it was played three months ago.
Still, the two teams have looked quite different since then, so the ball is in the air. If there was ever a time for NRG to finally break the curse, this series might be a good time to start the year on the right foot.
We agree with the Valorant betting odds on this matchup, as NRG deserve to be labeled the favorites. That said, this series is unlikely to be one-sided.
G2 should be able to secure either Split or Bind for their map pick, which are two maps where NRG have looked uncomfortable on. We believe G2 are good to take at least one map.
In terms of who will win the series, it will likely come down to jawgemo. If he delivers, he can push G2 over the finish line and pull off the upset. However, if he once again goes missing, NRG will likely take the victory here.
