G2 Esports and KOI will face off in the upper bracket final of the LEC Spring 2025 playoffs. Considering that both teams are coming off upset wins against the favorites to reach the grand final, the match promises to be a close one.
The ongoing LEC split’s playoffs are in full blast, and the first day featured two significant upsets. Karmine Corp and Fnatic were the favorites to win the whole thing thanks to their performances in the regular season, but the two teams were defeated by KOI and G2 Esports, respectively. Now, these two winners are slated to face off in the upper bracket finals.
G2 and KOI had a handful of shaky matches in the regular season, but both teams picked themselves up and came back stronger into the playoffs. While elimination is not on the line for the two sides, the winner will go straight to the grand final, ensuring that it’s guaranteed to qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational and the Esports World Cup.
While G2 has had some uncharacteristically difficult matches in the current split, its players still showed great skill. The standout player is easily SkewMond, who performs well in every match and was one of the major reasons G2 won against Fnatic. Although BrokenBlade was formerly an issue at times, he seems to have found a stable playing style that works for him, ensuring he pushes aggressively but doesn’t overstay his welcome and instead knows when to fall back.
G2’s Hans Sama has shown the most improvement as the tournament has progressed. While the ADC was initially unnecessarily aggressive and prone to fall to ganks, he now knows how to use his poke to his advantage to snowball into a powerful force near the end. Stats like the 11-1-5 line he posted against Fnatic recently are incredible, and having even half of those stats here will likely give Hans Sama enough attack damage to comfortably secure kills.
KOI may not have many recent achievements, but the team’s mid laner and ADC are forces to be reckoned with. Jojopyun and Supa have consistently performed in every match and were the leading players against Karmine Corp. The team’s strategy revolves around getting a major early-game gold advantage to snowball it into a victory, and employing the same thing against G2 may be a good idea.
Below are the rosters and roles for both teams.
G2 Esports:
KOI:
G2 has a handful of champions it usually looks toward when facing strong teams, and they’ll likely appear in the match against KOI. These picks include Gnar, Renekton, Dr. Mundo, Maokai, Akali, Hwei, Taliyah, Kai’Sa, Ashe, Varus, Rell, Nautilus, and Alistar.
KOI is slightly more flexible than G2, but Rell, Braum, Corki, Ezreal, Azir, Yone, Vi, K’Sante, and Ambessa all have high pick rates for this side. Both teams’ junglers picked Trundle and performed excellently in their respective upper bracket semifinal matches, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they both attempt to draft the champion first.
G2 started the regular season strong, but then the team’s performance stagnated as the ongoing LEC split’s regular season progressed. Fortunately for G2, the team returned stronger than ever.
KOI’s initial performance in the LEC split left much to be desired, but the team showed its potential when it defeated Karmine Corp. That win catapulted KOI into this finals series.
G2 Esports and KOI have faced off five times before, and G2 has emerged the victor every time. While KOI managed to win two games, that’s the extent of the team’s success against G2.
While G2 Esports defeated Fnatic, KOI won against Karmine Corp, who had just made it to the finals of the recent First Stand tournament. Still, G2 is the favorite to win against KOI with a betting line of 1.45 compared to KOI’s 2.70.
KOI may have defeated KC, but it can’t be ignored how close that match was. By contrast, G2 Esports comfortably outplayed Fnatic and took a convincing 3-1 victory. Both teams here have similar playing styles, with the junglers looking for aggressive ganks and attempting to have their ADCs scale faster than the other team’s bot-lane carry.
The upcoming match will likely be determined by which team can successfully single out and overwhelm the enemy players to secure those early advantages. While both teams’ junglers and ADCs have showcased high carry potential, KOI’s advantage may be its mid laner, Jojopyun, who is more likely to assist in objective acquisition than Caps based on recent matches. That could be something to watch for and a potential sign of a KOI upset victory.
