The first day of the LEC Spring road trip week will see G2 Esports face off with rival GIANTX. Considering GX’s position at the bottom of the league standings, the team will want to win every possible match to have a slight chance to progress to the playoffs. But that will be a tall task versus perennial favorite G2.
The LEC Spring 2025 regular season has seen multiple high-profile European League of Legends teams duke it out for a chance to win it all. Karmine Corp, Fnatic, and G2 Esports are currently leading as the favorites to progress to the playoffs, while teams like Rogue and GIANTX are struggling to get out of the bottom four.
GIANTX is in fact at the very bottom of the league table, with only won match won against Rouge while losing against every other opponent. GX is now about to face off against G2 Esports, which has only lost one match against Team BDS. While GX winning this upcoming match would definitely help its chances of progressing to the next stage, it will be easier said than done.
The current LEC tournament started with GIANTX losing to Fnatic, and the team has continued to disappoint fans since. The squad seems to lack a cohesive strategy going into every match, instead hoping to make up something on the fly, and that hasn’t really worked for GX so far. While the team showcased decent gameplay in the Winter LEC’s regular season, it hasn’t been able to recreate that form since.
Two factors most result in GIANTX losing, aside from the lack of strategy. The first is the fact that its players aren’t on the same page during team fights, while the second is the jungler’s poor performance. Isma continues to be outperformed by most opposing junglers, and the same is likely to happen against G2’s SkewMond.
By contrast, G2 Esports is playing at a high level. In particular, Hans Sama and SkewMond have consistently played well, winning the jungle and bot lane match-ups against most teams. While the side crumbled against BDS, it has managed to win against every other team thanks to its clear strategizing and team-based approach to each match.
Below are the rosters for both teams in the upcoming match.
G2 Esports:
GIANTX:
While the fearless draft system ensures players can’t play the same champion more than once in a match, G2 Esports still seems to be sticking to a limited champion pool. This includes Gnar, Renekton, Dr. Mundo, Maokai, Akali, Hwei, Taliyah, Kai’Sa, Ashe, Varus, Rell, Nautilus, and Alistar.
On the other hand, it’s hard to predict which champions GIANTX will go for against G2. The team has tried various champions, even if some, including Sejuani, Skarner, Azir, Azreal, Corki, and Neeko, are the most common. The team will likely want to switch things up here, given that the current champion pool hasn’t been working too well.
GIANTX and G2 Esports have met on the main stage seven times in the past. Out of those, GIANTX has lost every single time, giving G2 a perfect record against its new rival.
G2 Esports’ excellent performance in the ongoing tournament cements it as the favorite to win the match against GIANTX with a line of 1.55. Meanwhile, GIANTX is the underdog with a line of 3.60.
GIANTX has been in a bit of a slump, and it doesn’t seem like that’ll change in its match against G2. G2 Esports’ individual players, especially SkewMond and Hans Sama, have consistently been playing well, which could be bad news for the extremely inconsistent GIANTX. G2 also has a high chance of taking the first turret, and with that, each game’s feats of strength.
GX already went against Fnatic and KC and only managed to get a single game against the latter. The team is ultimately in rather poor form, resulting in the team’s members doubting themselves and refusing to decisively engage. Against a team like G2, a side that isn’t afraid to make risky plays, that could be the deciding factor that loses GX the match.
