G2 Esports and GIANTX are slated to duke it out on the first day of the LEC 2025 Winter Playoffs, and while G2 Esports is the strong favorite, GIANTX has serious upset potential.
The League of Legends LEC 2025 Winter Playoffs are starting soon, and eight strong teams will be competing. G2 Esports and GIANTX are meeting on the rift in the second game of the playoffs’ first day. After some drama involving GX’s coach calling out G2 and saying the team won’t make it to Worlds, the hype for this match is through the roof.
While G2 has been in excellent form recently, GIANTX will be in it to win and may cause a major upset. Both teams have sizeable fan bases, even if the general favorite to win is G2 Esports.
Below are the rosters for both teams in the upcoming match:
G2 Esports
GIANTX
G2 Esports has used Ezreal, Leona, and Vi the most in its recent games, while GIANTX has gravitated toward Rell, K’Sante, Vi, and Ezreal. With Vi and Ezreal being common picks, it remains to be seen which team gets to control the two champions depending on the pick and ban orders. This could be a turning point in the match.
This will be the fifth meeting between the teams in the last seven months, with G2 Esports having an undefeated 5-0 record against GIANTX.
While G2 Esports and GIANTX have a marked history, primarily thanks to the comments of the latter’s coach, the two teams are far from rivals. G2′ constant winning record against GIANTX makes most think that G2 will come out on top yet again in this match. While GIANTX could potentially make it out with the win, it isn’t likely.
G2 has often struggled in recent years on the international stage, but its dominance in Europe has remained largely unquestioned. Teams such as Giantx are trying to upend that dominance this year, and the recent spat between the GIANTX coaching staff and that of G2 speaks to this desire.
But for as much desire as GIANTX may have, there’s no doubting the continued success of G2 in continental competition. Caps remains the most accomplished player in European League of Legends and doesn’t seem to be slowing any time soon. It’s unlikely that changes here, as GIANTX may not have the pure quality needed to complete the upset. Even with G2 being a strong betting favorite and thus paying out relatively little, dropping in on the odds for GIANTX is a difficult play for those looking to make a bet on the match.
