The G2 Esports vs Cloud9 match will kick off the VCT 2025: Americas group stage’s final week. Cloud9’s underdog status going into the match doesn’t necessarily that G2 is a safe bet, as this could be a very competitive battle.
The current year’s VCT: Americas competition is in full blast, with its group stage set to wrap up soon. While Group Alpha has been fairly balanced, the same can’t be said for Group Omega. G2 has been absolutely dominating the opposition there and has thus far gone undefeated. The last team standing between G2 Esports and its perfect group stage score is Cloud9.
Cloud9 has showcased a strong performance in the current split, besting teams like NRG and Leviatán. MIBR is the only team that has bested C9, guaranteeing its spot in the playoffs. Winning the upcoming match against G2 Esports would cement Cloud9’s spot in the upper brackets while threatening G2’s bye into the upper bracket semifinals.
G2 Esports has one of the most balanced teams in the current Champions Tour, and all of the squad’s recent performances reflect that. While the team suffered an unexpected loss against T1 in the Valorant Masters Bangkok 2025 grand final, it can’t be understated just how much G2 dominated the opposition during that tournament. The same has been true for the current Champions Tour’s group stage.
The team has powerhouse players who have consistently brought their A-game, including trent, valyn, and leaf. While jawgemo’s performance is slightly inconsistent, his highs are extremely impressive, with his outrageously high kill stats in this tournament impressing. JonahP is arguably one of the best supports in all of Valorant with his excellent Breach plays.
This all doesn’t mean Cloud9 is anything to scoff at. The team also has skilled players, including v1c, who has shown up to every match without fail. C9’s biggest weakness is that it has some players who only occasionally perform to the best of their abilities. These players include neT and Xeppaa. While mitch’s performance also leaves much to be desired, he usually makes up for it through his impressive supportive utility use.
Below are the rosters for both teams in the upcoming match.
Cloud9:
G2 Esports
Cloud9 is usually fairly consistent with its agent picks, opting to go for agents like Jett, Omen, Sova, Cypher, and Breach. Depending on the opposition, OXY sometimes switches out Jett for a different duelist like Neon.
As for G2 Esports, the team’s most popular picks include Breach, Omen, Viper, Yoru, and Tejo. Omen is sometimes swapped out for Brimstone or Astra, and Viper for a sentinel like Vyse or Chamber.
Cloud9 and G2 Esports have faced off on the big stage four times before. C9 has only won once, while G2 came out the victor three times, giving G2 a 75% win rate against its Americas opponent.
G2 Esports has been popping off recently with its near domination of the previous Masters event and the current tournament, so it makes sense that it’s the favorite to win the upcoming match with a line of 1.22. Cloud9’s 3.80 betting line makes it the definitive underdog.
G2 Esports and Cloud9 have both showcased great skill against every opponent they’ve faced, but G2 beats the opposition in its consistency. Recent matches suggest that every G2 player can comfortably hit double-digit kills while following their assigned role exactly as needed by the team. Conversely, Cloud9 has a handful of weak links that may ultimately hold it back.
Regardless, C9 is an extremely strong team and is likely to go in guns blazing from the first game. Between v1c’s fragging and mitch’s support, the team may win that first game. While some of C9’s members, namely neT and Xeppaa, are susceptible to getting overwhelmed when things go south, G2 Esports is known for its level-headed play. G2’s strength is its experience and adaptability, which may help the team come back stronger and blaze through Cloud9 in the remaining games to secure a match win even if the first map slips away.
