G2 Esports’ League of Legends team is making the surprising decision to swap the roles of two of its players ahead of the 2025 LEC Summer split.
Pro League of Legends recently saw two large-scale international tournaments conclude. Korean team Gen.G emerged victorious at the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational and at the Esports World Cup. While Chinese team Anyone’s Legend performed better than expected, European and North American teams weren’t seen any either tournament’s top three. European teams particularly struggled at MSI, posting one of the region’s worst combined performances in its long history.
To hopefully change this, the G2 Esports LoL team will make a major roster change ahead of the LEC Summer split, and it isn’t the only European team to do so. By swapping two of its players’ roles, the team aims to improve its knowledge and performance in time for the next major tournament later in the year.
The G2 Esports League of Legends team swapped its top laner and jungler just days before the LEC Summer split kicked off, switching the roles of SkewMond and BrokenBlade.
The original roster saw SkewMond playing jungler while BrokenBlade played in the top lane. Now, the two players will fill each other’s roles. The post made on the official G2 Esports X account states that these changes are meant to increase versatility among the roster’s players while ensuring its players have shared role knowledge. BrokenBlade has struggled to play around his jungler in the recent tournaments, and that may be why the team opted to make this decision.

According to the post, BrokenBlade has already started practicing his new position in scrims and solo queue with promising results. The post likely singled out BrokenBlade because he received the most criticism after these recent tournaments concluded, as his performance left the most to be desired among G2’s members. Regardless, G2 still managed to crack the top four in the 2025 EWC, and improved individual play could raise the side’s ceiling further.
The LEC Summer split kicks off on August 2, 2025. Fortunately for G2 Esports, the team will have ample time to let SkewMond and BrokenBlade settle into their roles as the team doesn’t have any matches lined up for the first week of competition. G2’s first match is set for August 9 against Team Heretics, where fans will see this roster change in action for the first time.
