The third week of the VCT 2025: Americas group stage will see G2 Esports and NRG face off. While G2 is the favorite to win by quite a lot, the looming question for interested bettors is whether NRG has any upset potential.
After an excellent performance throughout most of Valorant Masters Bangkok 2025, G2 Esports is back in the VCT 2025: Americas Stage 1 tournament. The team has gone undefeated so far in the two matches it has played in the group stage and now finds itself about to meet with NRG on the big stage.
NRG’s recent performances have been shaky, but the team did win against FURIA in week two with a score of 2-1. While that single win puts the team above FURIA and Leviatan, winning against G2 would give the team a better chance of moving on to the playoffs.
G2 Esports is arguably one of the strongest teams in the current VCT 2025: Americas tournament, if not the world. The team dominated the VCT 2025: Americas kickoff event at the start of the year and showcased excellent skill during Masters Bangkok. In particular, players such as leaf, JonahP, and trent have displayed excellent skills thus far in the new year, and bringing that same energy to the match against NRG could spell danger for the opposition.
On the other hand, NRG has been consistently inconsistent. While the team’s duelist mada played well in games two and three against FURIA, the player’s lackluster bottom-fragging performance during the first game can’t be ignored. Many of NRG’s matches ultimately have only one player doing all the heavy lifting, and while that may work against some teams, G2 is very likely to shut that player down.
Below are the rosters for both teams in the upcoming match.
G2 Esports
NRG
G2 Esports has been experimenting with its team composition but has had a handful of constants players can expect. Tejo, Vyse, and Yoru are very likely to be seen in the upcoming match. As for the controller, it’ll likely be a toss-up between Omen and Astra, though Omen has seen more recent success.
NRG has picked some agents more than others, but not enough to confidently establish them as the team’s primary picks. Fans will likely see Tejo and Breach, with the other roles being up for grabs. The controller could be Brimstone or Omen, the duelist could be Raze or Neon, and the sentinel could be Cypher or Vyse.
G2 Esports and NRG have only met on the big stage once. The match happened in 2024, and unfortunately for NRG, G2 shut down the team at every turn, resulting in a final score of 2-0 as G2 Esports took a convincing win.
Considering both teams’ recent performances, it isn’t surprising that G2 Esports is the favorite to win against NRG. G2’s betting line of 1.22 compared to NRG’s 3.80 makes the latter the clear underdog.
NRG’s players have great skills, but the team’s inconsistency and more passive gameplay have ultimately led to multiple defeats. The latest example is the match against FURIA, where the team’s duelist mada refused to take needed fights in the first game, leading to a devastating map loss. NRG went on to win the two following games when its members were more actively seeking fights and approaching aggressively.
A similar scenario will likely play out in the match against G2, with NRG getting completely shut down in the first game and then picking up later, but the final verdict may be different this time. G2 Esports has much more experience on the international stage compared to FURIA and is much more likely to shut the opposition down before it can pick up needed steam. G2 has gone undefeated in the current group stage thus far, and banking on this winning streak continuing may be the best betting approach.
