G2 Hel, the best women’s team in Europe, has disbanded today. The team was created in 2022 and has dominated the female scene ever since, while also regularly competing in mixed leagues. G2 Esports has not yet explained their decision to cut the team.
G2 Esports formed its sister team G2 Hel in September 2022. The team immediately won the Rising Stars 2022, a female tournament. G2 Hel then placed first or second in almost every tournament for women. G2 Hel’s latest result is a trophy at the Nova Series 2025 Prélude only two weeks ago. Before that, they placed second at the 2025 League of Legends Game Changers Rising, a major women-only event organized by Riot Games and Webedia.

In 2025, G2 Hel fielded Zeniv, Shiina, rym, Caltys and Colomblbl. Caltys and Colomblbl joined the team at the very start, while Shiina signed in 2023. Zeniv and rym only played this year. G2 Hel, SK Avarosa, Citadel Eterna, and Solary Academy make up the top 4 of the women’s scene.
The women’s scene in League of Legends progressively gained steam over the years. In 2017, the GIRLGAMER Esports festival, a recurring female tournament held its first event in Macao. At the end of the same year, the team Out of the Blue was formed. Out of the Blue put together a very promising roster alongside former EU LCS player Steve as a coach. The team received decent attention, and got more eyes to be set on the scene.
In more recent years, several Esports brands started fielding marginalised genders sister teams. G2 and SK did it in 2022. In 2023, Vitality and Solary followed, respectively with Vitality Rising Bees and a female roster for Solary Academy.
More tournaments for marginalised genders followed, with the Equal Esports Cup and the Coupe des Étoiles launching in 2023. The Coupe des Étoiles concluded in 2024, but Nova Series replaced it in 2025, no later than this month.

The biggest step forward, though, is the introduction of the League of Legends Game Changers Rising in Autumn 2025. The LGC is an official event with high support from Riot Games, culminating with offline playoffs that took place during the Paris Games Week in October 2025. Riot themselves and personalities in the scene have contributed to the tournament’s advertisement.
Riot launched the LGC Rising to try to emulate the success of the Valorant Game Changers tournament. VGC has been running yearly since 2025, each time with a $500,000 prize pool. However, it has to be noted that the League version was only allocated a $10,000 prize pool.
Unfortunately, these tournaments still receive little viewership. At the same time, G2 has invested a lot into G2 Hel, giving the team a real infrastructure and a good salary. Players are speculating that they are disbanding G2 Hel due to the team costing too much money without receiving enough viewership in return.
The team also doesn’t seem to manage to break through in mixed competition, and they’ve been at the top of the women’s competition since the beginning. With the female scene not yielding higher opportunities, G2 Hel ends up stagnating on both sides.
