G2 Esports, one of the leading esports organizations in the world, is commemorating its 10th anniversary this Wednesday, October 15.
The Berlin-based organization has gone a long way since establishing its League of Legends team 10 years ago. G2 has become a brand that everybody who follows esports recognizes, all thanks to its strong presence on social media, and both the dominant and disastrous teams the organization has housed. The organization claims it has over 30 million fans worldwide.
Though G2 is known for its characteristic banter when one of its teams loses a match or tournament, it’s fair to say that G2 has overachieved thus far. The organization has over 250 podium finishes across League of Legends, Counter-Strike, VALORANT, Rainbow Six Siege, and more.
G2 also lifted over 100 trophies before the 10th anniversary milestone, including some historic ones. G2, for example, is the only Western team that won the League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational (2019). The German organization also won two of Counter-Strike‘s most coveted trophies: IEM Katowice and IEM Cologne, both in 2023.
On Rainbow Six, G2 won the Invitational twice (2019 and 2023). As for VALORANT, G2 is a household name when it comes to the Game Changers circuit, having won the inaugural VCT Game Changers Championship in 2022 and three Game Changers stages in 2024.
Alban Dechelotte, G2’s current CEO, talked about these first 10 years and what the organization plans next:
Ten years ago, G2 started as a bold idea that esports could be more than competition; it could be culture. A decade later, that belief has become a reality. G2 has always been about the perfect mix of competition and storytelling, and none of it would have been possible without our players, staff, partners, and, of course, our incredible fans around the world. Whether you love us or love to hate us, you can’t ignore us, because G2 has always been about writing the best stories in esports.
Looking ahead, we’re aiming even higher, to become the biggest global brand that sits at the heart of digital-first entertainment at the intersection of esports and sports, and showing the world just how powerful gaming culture really is. Our 10th anniversary celebrations are more than just an opportunity to reflect on our achievements; they’re a way to say thank you to the fans who’ve been with us through it all and to look forward to the next chapter in the G2 story.
G2 is opening a Späti, which is a typical convenience shop in Berlin that sells beer and provides a place for people to hang out until late, in Berlin. The unique thing about G2’s Späti is that it will offer the organization’s limited beer, G2 Gold2.
The G2 Späti will be inaugurated today at Sticky21, Turmstr. 47, 10551 Berlin, Germany, and will stay open until November 14th. This is what the place will offer, according to the official press release.
The G2 Späti pop-up will serve as a celebration hub where fans can step inside and relive iconic moments. To mark the occasion, the pop-up will also be stocked with merchandise and act as the only physical location where fans can grab G2’s very own limited edition beer – GOLD2, giving fans a unique piece of G2 history to take home. Also fun fact, the Späti is owned by Ron Stublla, the G2 FC Team Manager.
