For the first time in a long time, Brazil’s two biggest and best Counter-Strike teams are set to face off in the playoffs of a big tournament. That’s because PGL Astana is set to host a showdown between MIBR and Furia Esports.
PGL Astana hasn’t really gone to plan. Virtus.pro, GamerLegion, and G2 Esports fell short of the playoffs. Furia, MIBR, and Ninjas in Pyjamas were happy to take their spots, though. Unfortunately for Brazilian Counter-Strike fans, this matchup will force one more Brazilian team out of the tournament.
But who will end up taking this one?
Furia and MIBR are set to face off in a PGL Astana playoffs quarterfinals match on May 16, 2025. This best-of-three match will send the winner to the semifinals and send the loser home. The victor will take on either Team Spirit or Ninjas in Pyjamas.
The Furia roster got a big shakeup prior to PGL Astana, but the early outlook for the team is positive. After an opening round loss to The MongolZ, Furia recovered and blazed its way to the playoffs with wins over GamerLegion, MIBR, and ODDIK.
Furia is currently playing with one stand-in who will be with the team through the BLAST Austin Major:
In 2025, Furia has a winrate hovering between 60% and 40% across all active duty maps, with two exceptions. The team bans Ancient and is 4-9 on Mirage this year. The roster changes may improve Furia’s fortunes, though.
MIBR scored a big upset win over G2 Esports in the first round of PGL Astana but was pushed to the brink of elimination by losses to MIBR and The MongolZ. A win over regional rival Pain Gaming kept MIBR alive and another upset win over Virtus.pro got the team into the playoffs.
MIBR’s roster remains unchanged for PGL Astana:
MIBR has been struggling throughout 2025, and has a losing record across Nuke, Ancient, Inferno, and Train. Inferno is particularly troublesome for MIBR, with the team going 4-11 to this point in the year. Its best map has been Mirage, where the team has gone 7-4.
MIBR and Furia have faced off four times since April 2024, with MIBR winning the first two and Furia winning the last two. The most recent was just a few days ago, with Furia defeating MIBR 2-1 in the group stage of PGL Astana.
Furia is the decisive favorite to win this match according to esports betting sites. The exact line varies based on the site, but the moneylines roughly stand at 1.40 against 2.80. While MIBR has a chance of winning, the expectation is for the retooled Furia to reach the top four.
Furia will likely win this match against MIBR. There’s an argument to be had about where the lines are sitting and whether MIBR is being underestimated here, but Furia should be favored here regardless.
