FPX suspends LPL pro Milkyway amid match-fixing allegations

FPX suspends Milkyway

Chinese esports organization FPX has indefinitely suspended player Cai “Milkyway” Zi-Jun following allegations of match-fixing which are now being investigated by the LPL.

Milkyway is a Chinese League of Legends player pro known for his aggressive playing style. The LoL pro is a relatively popular jungler best known domestically for his strong performances with Kindred. Among his recent achievements is finishing fifth in the LPL 2024 Spring split.

Milkyway recently went viral when users posted screenshots on social media alleging the player was involved in match-fixing. The supposed misconduct apparently occurred during the Demacia Cup 2024, when Milkyway was still playing for RNG. Milkyway is currently playing for FPX, and his new team has now suspended the player while an investigation looks into the allegations.

What are the match-fixing allegations against Milkyway?

League of Legends pro Milkyway is under investigation for allegedly match-fixing by leaking his team’s draft information.

Match-fixing typically involves a pro player or team intentionally losing in return for the potential of financial gain. Milkyway isn’t accused of throwing matches through purposeful poor play in-game, as is often the case in these situations. Instead, the player is accused of leaking team drafts so that a friend could place bets on the ensuing games. Milkyway was playing for RNG at the time. The leaked screenshots show the player sending messages about a “Korean coach” prior to the team officially announced the signing of Lee “Heart” Gwan-hyung.

Much speculation now revolves around exactly how Milkway’s misconduct was in this way reported, as someone must have decided to out the player and his past conduct.

FPX responded to the allegations by releasing a statement confirming that it had received reports of Milkyway allegedly violating league rules during the Demacia Cup 2024. The team suspended all match participation and training for the player and is “closely monitoring the situation.” FPX also reported the allegations to the LPL, the top domestic competition in China for pro League of Legends, and says that it’s cooperating with the ongoing investigation. The team emphasized that it’s waiting for an official investigation report before making a final decision on the player’s future, but FPX suspended Milkyway indefinitely in the meantime in accordance with league rules.

Milkway was largely considered the best LPL rookie of 2024, with some even referring to him as a future potential superstar, but his career may be in serious jeopardy depending on the validity of the allegations made against him. The player proved his skills when he returned to FPX after a brief stint with RNG in 2025 and his performance was praised even in the team’s losses, but that will count for very little if it turns out to be true that he’s been involved in a match-fixing scandal.
