Fortnite streamer Maria “Chica” Lopez was a victim of a home invasion that unsuspecting fans witnessed live on stream.
Chica was introduced to video games by her parents, and she was hooked instantly. Soon after, she started to play games professionally, and Fortnite became her main jam. The popular Fortnite streamer boasts over 2 million followers on both Twitch and YouTube. Her popularity can be gauged by the fact that Epic Games honored her with her own Fortnite icon skin in 2022.
During a recent stream, viewers saw masked intruders forcibly enter Chica’s home and threaten her. Many of her fans now want to know whether the streamer is safe and if the intruders have been caught.
Chica was live streaming when she heard a loud noise. It turned out to be masked intruders who broke into her home and demanded her car keys.
During a Twitch stream, Chica was streaming her usual content according to her normal routine when things took a turn for the worst. The streamer became a victim of a home invasion when five masked men broke her front door with hammers and demanded she give them the keys to her collection of cars.
Chica elaborated in an interview with a local Canadian news channel that when she heard the noise, she assumed her partner had fallen down. But instead, she saw men trying to break into her house. The streamer went on to say that when they asked for the car keys, she couldn’t remember where they were in her surprise. This caused one of the invaders to charge at her aggressively.
Her fear caused Chica to remember and tell them where the keys were. The men seemingly left her unharmed and rushed to steal the cars. The popular Fortnite streamer has a collection of high-end cars, which seems to have been the cause of the home invasion as the invaders only asked for her car keys while there. Even thought the invaders did manage to get the keys, they were unable to actually steal any of the streamer’s cars.
It was clarified in the interview that the cars didn’t start because of a special secondary theft prevention system. When the men were unable to steal the cars, they ran away and left the scene in their own vehicle.
While the robbery was unsuccessful and Chica didn’t suffer any physical harm, it left her traumatized. She informed fans in an X post that she and her partner are okay. Chica also stated she’d post more footage on her TikTok in the hopes that someone would recognize the men and bring them to justice.
