Fortnite servers down on Xbox, here’s what the community knows

Xbox players are finding their Fortnite servers down with no timeline for when they can rejoin, and they aren’t the only ones frustrated.

Fortnite is currently in the middle of Chapter 5 Season 3 and takes place in the Wastelands with collabs featuring Fallout and Mad Max. Because the game revolves around competing or collaborating with other live players, a server connection is essential to anyone wishing to play. If the Xbox Fortnite servers are down, that spells bad news currently for console players.

Here’s everything that’s currently known about the downed Fortnite servers.

Why did the Fortnite servers crash?

Xbox Support currently isn’t sure why the servers are down, but the investigation is ongoing.

The crash was first reported at 2 pm EST. Any fans trying to play received error messages telling them that they were unable to connect to Epic servers.

At this time, Fortnite on the Xbox isn’t available to play.

Given Fortnite’s solid track record of server uptime in 2024, this clearly came as a surprise to many players. Yet it appears that the issue isn’t with Fortnite, but with the Xbox and Microsoft system as a whole.

Other games affected include Valorant, Call of Duty

Not only are the Fortnite servers down, but there appears to be an issue across Xbox Live as a whole.

Investigation continues into issues impacting users ability to sign in to Xbox Live and services. Thank you for your patience while our engineers work. Updates here and on https://t.co/kQKp1MgssY https://t.co/ul65ZiAbtP

The latest update is from approximately 7 pm EST, about six hours of downtime so far. Xbox Support says that all services are running except for Account and Profile. Players are now unable to use any game that requires them to sign in like Fortnite, Valorant, Call of Duty, or really almost any multiplayer game. Apps and social activity are also unavailable. Being unable to sign in means no connection, and thus the Fortnite servers are effectively down for players.

The investigation is taking longer than expected, so fans don’t have an estimated fix time.

Right now, the best place to keep tabs on when the Fortnite servers are back up is through the Xbox Support team on X. With so many of their consumers locked out, Xbox is sure to have a fix ready soon.
