Fnatic: The first ever European team to win zero matches at LoL Worlds

Yesterday, history was made once again at 2025 LoL Worlds. For the second time this week, we’re breaking records in the negative sense. Earlier, we had T1 having their worst showing ever by usually being overwhelmingly dominant, and this time simply looking normal.

But now, for Fnatic’s turn: Going 0-3 in groups, Fnatic is the first ever team from the LEC to go out of Worlds without a single match win!

Let’s review how they managed this impressive feat.

Fnatic’s run at the 2025 LoL Worlds

Fnatic looked weird heading into Worlds this year. They destroyed KC to secure their spot, only to lose just as convincingly to MKOI right after. There wasn’t too much faith in them as a result, only hope that they could fix their issues. Those issues they’ve had ever since… losing to G2. The usual.

Well, they did not.

FNC vs CFO

Fnatic’s first game, against CFO, was an auspicious start. The Oysters were known to be surprisingly strong, and they in ours Worlds Swiss stage predictions, were expected to win. But not like this.

FNC drafted a comp that did not give them much damage. And certainly not enough to make it through the Sion that CFO picked. As a result, they lost without really making mistakes during the game, because they simply did not get to play to win. They handicapped themselves in champ select, and that was all she wrote. So they didn’t even put up a fight.

FNC vs BLG

During the first day of Swiss, the FNC loss wasn’t caused by poor play, so hope was still up. And day 2 had them face a BLG that had been really underwhelming on day 1. So, perfect opportunity for them to strike back, right?

Oh boy. By minute 2, Fnatic had already forgotten that the one play avenue against their bot lane was a quick gank. Or they haven’t realized this line that every analyst had called straight from champ select. As a result, the lane that would be their win condition did not find much impact at all.

At the same time, Oscar fell far behind despite having a counterpick, creating a hole that no lane in Fnatic could answer. BLG was still in a slump for the second day of the Swiss stage. FNC managed to make it look less obvious by being even worse themselves.

FNC vs MKOI

To conclude and complete their streak was a rematch that we’ve had twice in the LEC Summer playoffs just before. Both times resulted in MKOI wins. As expected, the third time was no different.

  • In game 1, Fnatic fell for very obvious traps that set them behind. Taking pity on them, KOI kindly gifted them part of their lead back to give them a second chance. Several times. But as honorable opponents, FNC declined the gesture and threw the game right back each time through repeated overextensions. Again, this continues the story of drawing opponents that play poorly, and playing even worse.
  • Game 2, for once, was good! MKOI picked a heavily scaling comp, Fnatic found creative early plays to secure a lead. And from that point on, they managed to close it out, only giving their fans a handful of heart attacks along the way. And that would be the first Nexus that Fnatic would see explode outside of their base walls.

That unusual sight must have really disoriented them, and this first time would also be the only one. Fnatic did not play the third game. Or close enough. Oscar died in the wrong places and without flashing and Razork was happy to match him. Miky didn’t want to be there, and the carries were only that in name.

Fnatic’s final game of the year truly was a fitting conclusion to that season. Uninspired, underwhelming, and lifeless.

Europe’s worst runs in history

Here’s a quick glance at the previous worst runs of the regions at Worlds.

  • MAD Lions KOI, 2024 (0-3): With the exact same record in Swiss, MAD were the previous worst performers. However, they had also won two Bo3s in play-ins, preventing a true winless run.
  • Team BDS, 2023 (0-3): Same story there, only with slightly better play-ins. In 2023, BDS won two Bo3s and a Bo5s before advancing to their only-defeated Swiss stage.
  • MAD Lions, 2022 (Out in play-ins): Arguably an even worse showing based on how we rate things. In 2022, MAD went 3-2 in play-ins and then won a Bo5. However, there was a second one to win to enter the Group stage, in which they famously fell 0-3 to EG.

After that, we have another 5 showings that are tied. 5 teams that went out of Groups with a scoreline of 1-5, with G2 being the first one to manage that in 2016.

But to go the entire event without winning a single match is an achievement that even the most hopeless Worlds participants in LEC history had not managed to pull off until now. Today, we congratulate Fnatic on making history. And we thank them for gracing Worlds 2025 with their gameplay no longer.
