Fnatic and M80 break CS2 record for longest CS2 match

M80 Lake Ace

Fnatic and M80 just broke the CS2 record for the longest competitive match, much to the shock of hyped fans.

ESL Pro League Season 20 marches on, and two underdog CS2 teams just faced up against each other. In many ways, the matchup already told a captivating story. Fnatic is an esports team with a long history in Counter-Strike stretching back to 2004. Meanwhile, M80 only has a year of Counter-Strike experience, yet it has garnered several wins in multiple B-tier tournaments. However, ESL Pro League 2024 is an S-tier tournament where the best prove their skills against each other.

Little did Fnatic and M80 know they would make history together.

Fnatic and M80 break longest single map round record in CS2

The first map of Fnatic versus M80 lasted 71 rounds on Anubis at ESL Pro League Season 20, ending 37-34 in M80’s favor.

The game beats the longest CS2 match record previously set by Paravision versus Aurora Gaming in November 2023. The two teams faced off in Anubis and spent nearly three hours on the map, trading back-and-forth wins and losses. The map took so long that even fans who watched late saw only the middle of the game.

Eventually, M80 picked up the win against Fnatic on Anubis. The second map, Inferno, was far shorter but no less exciting. Fnatic initially began with a strong lead of 11-5 on the scoreboard, seemingly setting the stage for a third map. However, M80 rallied and won Inferno, leaving Fnatic with a goose egg by the end.

Though M80 took the win that day, fans praised both teams for an amazing game and achieving the longest match in competitive CS2 history. While a total of 100 rounds in one match is impressive, it’s by no means the longest match in Counter-Strike history.

Gunrunners and eSubaholds is the record longest match in Counter-Strike

The longest match in Counter-Strike history was 137 rounds between Gunrunners and eSubaholds at Sazka eLeague Spring 2020.

The teams fought for the final spot in the tournament and had three close games. Gunrunners took the win 16-13 in Mirage while eSuba took the victory on Train. In the final map, Overpass, eSuba took the game in a brutally long match, 37-35 against Gunrunners.

With CS2 being youthful by esports standards, there’s still a chance of two elite teams breaking Fnatic and M80’s record for the longest match.
