FaZe Clan made a Hail Mary play ahead of the BLAST Austin Major by adding CSGOAT s1mple to its roster. Making the splashiest possible signing is a classic FaZe Clan maneuver but s1mple has shown that he can drag even a dysfunctional team to good placements on his own. And s1mple on a functional team? IEM Dallas was supposed to be fans’ first taste of this iteration of FaZe Clan, but Håvard “rain” Nygaard sat out of the event to attend to family matters. Despite playing with a substitute and going without a proper boot camp, s1mple showed that he still has the ability to carry a team. Not only that, but there were some great demonstrations of chemistry between s1mple and former teammate Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski.

The big question for FaZe now is whether the team has the legs for a run longer than their sprint out of Dallas. The full lineup is in Austin and they’ve had the opportunity to practice. They can show what they’re made of against Heroic.

Heroic was the team that punched FaZe’s ticket out of Dallas with a hardfought 2-1 win. While Heroic didn’t convert its win over FaZe and company into a playoff berth, the team has looked very good in the BLAST Austin Major so far. The team’s performance has looked much cleaner than its previous win over FaZe, which was defined by wacky “FaZe magic” clutches.

Though Heroic has improved, FaZe has also likely pulled together in a way that can carry them to victory.

FaZe Clan is just about even on almost every active duty map so far in 2025. The exceptions are Ancient and Nuke, where the team has about a 60% win rate on Nuke and Ancient. Most of that is without s1mple though, and s1mple is historically very strong on Train.
FaZe has generally avoided playing on Train since its return to competitive Counter-Strike, but that might change with s1mple on the team.
Heroic has a 50% win rate or better across the six maps it plays, and is closer to 70% on Mirage, Dust 2, and Anubis. The team bans Inferno.
