BLAST Open Spring 2025 has wound up as a bloodbath, with FaZe Clan and Astralis being two of the biggest victims.
While BLAST Open Spring isn’t the biggest tournament, it’s bringing together most of Counter-Strike’s best teams. That’s made for some competitive matches, but that doesn’t guarantee competitive outcomes. There have been some absolutely devastating beatdowns in the opening round of the group stage.
Astralis and FaZe Clan both ate some difficult losses in the first round of matches. Now they face off with their tournament lives on the line.
FaZe Clan and Astralis are set for a lower bracket matchup in BLAST Open Spring 2025’s group stage on March 21, 2025. The match will be a best-of-three and the loser will be eliminated from the tournament. The winner will advance in the lower bracket.
FaZe Clan has a generally strong body of work and solid roster, but the team is dealing with a devastating loss to start BLAST Open Spring. They took a 2-1 upset loss to Virtus.pro in their first group stage match, which ended on a 13-0 sweep.
The FaZe Clan roster will be looking to rebound off Astralis:
FaZe Clan has a losing record on Inferno, Dust 2, and Anubis, and a winning record on Ancient, Mirage, and Nuke. Ancient is the team’s best map in recent months, but it’s also coming off an overtime loss to VP there.
Astralis posted a commendably strong third-place run in PGL Cluj-Napoca, but didn’t get off to an ideal start in BLAST Open Spring. The team was matched against the white-hot Vitality in round one and took a lopsided loss.
The Astralis roster with veteran star dev1ce and IGL cadiaN returns here:
Astralis has a poor record on Mirage and Dust 2, winning less than one-third of its games there over the last six months. It has a winning record on other maps, with Nuke and Inferno being its best.
FaZe Clan and Astralis played in a third-place tiebreaker match in PGL Cluj-Napoca, with Astralis taking an upset 2-1 win. FaZe and Astralis played a few times in early 2024, but both teams have undergone roster changes since then.
FaZe Clan is a 1.65 favorite in this match despite taking a huge loss to VP. Astralis is a 2.22 underdog. Both teams are coming off a big loss, but bookies aren’t putting much stock into Astralis’ previous win over FaZe.
FaZe Clan should be able to defeat Astralis in BLAST Open Spring 2025. The team’s still a credible top-10 squad and neither fans nor bettors should panic over one single loss. FaZe’s performance going forward is worth keeping a close eye on, though.
