There were no surprises on April 20, 2022: DWG KIA have confirmed that Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon has joined the team for the summer split. The move was rumored as far back as April 8 as Korizon Esports were the first to report on the situation.

Suddenly, the LCK is no longer a one-team show. Indeed, with Nuguri’s entry to the lineup, DWG KIA will fight T1 as equals, which was not the case during the 2022 spring split. Their duels in the summer split will likely set the tone for how ideal League of Legends should look like, and they will likely be the stuff of legend.
During Nuguri’s absence in the spring split, T1 set a record as they went undefeated during the spring split, playoffs included. Meanwhile, DWG KIA were unable to recapture the glory of 2020 and 2021, as they failed to reach the finals.
Without Nuguri, DWG KIA had strong mid and bot play, but their top-side play was a major liability as young talents Noh “Burdol” Tae-yoon and Yoon “Hoya” Yong-ho struggled against their opponents.
The top laner joins a team that can play strong-side and weakside bot, which may relieve some pressure as he returns to competitive League of Legends. The player took a break from the competition after crashing out of the 2021 World Championship’s group stage as a member of FunPlus Phoenix.
