Valve has officially announced that CS2 Premier Season 2 will bring map rotation changes, a major FAMAS improvement, and more.
Developers at Valve have outlined how the transition from CS2 Premier Season 1 to Season 2 will work. Players who were active during Premier Season 1 will receive a commemorative Premier Season 1 medal and can click the medal in the inventory to view their detailed season stats. These stats include the total multi-kills and their win/loss ratio, giving players a fun way to remember the bygone season.
There will be a one-day Premier downtime period during which players’ CS Rating will be recalibrated based on their performance in Season 1. Once the new season begins, players will need to win 10 matches to reestablish their CS Rating for the new ranked period. CS2 Premier Season 2 is set to bring a few changes that will significantly impact gameplay moving forward.
Premier Season 2 most notably includes FAMAS buffs, ranging from a price cut that will make the weapon cheaper to purchase and further changes that will improve its standing and crouching accuracy.
The price reduction makes it a good option for half-buy rounds when players want to save money for the next round while still posing a relatively stiff challenge to attacking opponents.
Another big change players will notice in Season 2 is a change in the map rotation, as Train is in and Vertigo is out. Many professional CS2 players have spoken against both Train and Vertigo, so it’s hard to say how this change will ultimately be received at the top levels of play. The revised Train map is already scheduled for use in pro tournaments worldwide. Now Valve is ensuring it is seen more in the Premier competitive mode as well.
In addition to the FAMAS buffs for the new season, Valve is also making the M4A4 less expensive. Combined with the lowered cost of the FAMAS, this could be seen as a general boost to the CT side, given that its two CT-exclusive weapons that are seeing improvements in Premier Season 2.
Valve has now stated the CS2 Premier Season 2 will end directly after the BLAST Austin Major in June 2025.
The exact starting date of the second season hasn’t been announced, but the end date is stated to follow the BLAST Austin Major, a top pro CS2 tournament that will conclude on June 22. The new season will have a shorter duration compared to Premier Season 1, which lasted considerably longer than what’s being estimated here.
Players can earn the Premier Season 2 Medal just as they could the medal for Season 1, but they will need to meet its prerequisites. Players must have a good account standing, 25 Premier match wins, and an active CSR by the end of the season.
