Counter-Strike legend FalleN to retire in 2026, a look back at his iconic career

FalleN led FURIA to win FISSURE Playground 2 in 2025.

A legendary career is coming to an end, as Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo announced at IEM Rio 2026 that he will be hanging up the mouse at the end of 2026.

Not having around one of the best CS2 IGLs and legendary AWPers will be a huge miss to the scene, and especially to FURIA, who will have to bring in a new player to their roster.

How will FalleN’s last seven months in competitive Counter-Strike play out?

FalleN’s Counter-Strike career has spanned over 20 years and three different versions of the game. While his CS 1.6 achievements are important to his story as well, for this article, we will focus on his time competing in CS:GO and CS2.

The Brazilians first appeared on the CS:GO map in late 2014 with KaBuM and then Keyd Stars, before FalleN and co. joined Luminosity Gaming in mid-2015. That’s when they really got the ball rolling and became one of the best teams in the world.

Under the Luminosity banner, FalleN lifted the MLG Columbus 2016 trophy, his first Major title, before doing so again at ESL One Cologne 2016, though that time sporting the SK Gaming jersey.

Winning two Majors back-to-back as an AWPing IGL already cemented FalleN as a legend of the game, but he still had so much more to give. SK won several other tournaments in 2017, before the Brazilians moved orgs once again.

Their next stop was MIBR (Made In Brazil), a legendary organization within the region. Despite its legacy, FalleN’s two and a half years on the team resulted in only a single trophy in 2018.

Since 2021, FalleN has been part of a few unsuccessful ventures in Team Liquid, Imperial, and FURIA up until mid 2025, when everything changed.

FURIA chopped and changed Brazilian players within their roster for a long time, but nothing seemed to stick. That’s why the organization decided to go international, signing Mareks “YEKINDAR” Galinskis and Danil “molodoy” Golubenko, who took over the AWPing duties from FalleN.

The move looked wild on paper, but it’s safe to say that it was the right decision. molodoy turned out to be one of the best CS2 players and snipers in the world at only 21 years old, while all the other players on the team elevated their game to a whole new level.

With FalleN at the helm, FURIA claimed four titles in the second half of 2025, besting all the top CS2 teams along the way, including the world’s best, Vitality.

While they are yet to win a tournament in 2026, they are still among the world’s elite and are one of the CS2 betting favorites to do well at the upcoming CS2 Major. Can FalleN lift the Major trophy in Cologne 10 years after he did so with Luminosity?

While FalleN remains on the roster for the upcoming CS2 events until the end of the year, FURIA need to consider what they will do with their roster following his departure.

Obviously, FURIA will be losing their IGL. To fill that void, they have two options. They could either bring in an in-game leader or transition one of the players already on the roster. If they were to go with the second option, the natural choice would be YEKINDAR.

The Latvian has in-game leading experience from his time at Liquid, albeit it was not a fruitful period in his career. That’s why this move wouldn’t bring a lot of confidence in FURIA’s long-term performance.

Bringing in an established IGL seems to be the optimal thing to do. However, there are several important factors to consider, one of them being region allocation. Signing a European IGL would mean FURIA are no longer an Americas team, making future Major qualification more challenging.

There’s still a lot of time until the end of the year, so new opportunities and exciting prospects that could fit FURIA’s system could still arise. However, no matter who they get, it’s hard to believe they’ll be able to fill FalleN’s shoes.
