FalleN blasts Counter-Strike 2 peeker’s advantage, but is it real?

fallen counter-strike

Counter-Strike 2 has brutal peeker’s advantage and pro players, including Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo, have been speaking up about it during IEM Katowice 2025.

While Counter-Strike pros are miles better than the average casual player, they’re still ultimately playing the same game. Sure, they invest the time to figure out the best grenade lineups and have way faster reaction times. But if something is structurally wrong with the game itself, they’re going to be impacted by it just as much as anyone else.

And according to many Counter-Strike pros, something is structurally wrong with Counter-Strike 2. While Valve infamously boasted about “moving beyond tick rate” to talk up CS2’s netcode and combat fans’ long-standing demand for 128-tick official servers, the company opted for an entirely new form of net code. This has frustrated players at all levels, but none moreso than pros.

FalleN blasts Counter-Strike 2 for intense peeker’s advantage

FalleN added to the chorus of pro Counter-Strike players who are criticizing CS2 for its intense peeker’s advantage.

The legendary AWPer suffered a difficult loss to Natus Vincere alongside his Furia Esports teammates on February 1 in IEM Katowice 2025. Discussing the loss, FalleN lamented how difficult it is to hold a position in Counter-Strike 2 with its current net code.

“Now in CS2, there’s some angles we’re holding where if they [peek] perfectly, you have no chance. It doesn’t matter if you’re 33 or 22 [years old], you don’t have time to press the mouse,” FalleN said.

Peeker’s advantage is a phenomenon in first-person shooters where two players competing against each other effectively see different things on their monitors due to how the game compensates for lag. If Player A comes out from behind cover that is being watched by Player B, peeker’s advantage effectively lets Player A see Player B first. In a game like Counter-Strike with one-shot kills and extremely skilled competitors, this means that players can easily and often get killed before they’ve even seen what happened.

AWPers like FalleN are particularly sensitive to this. As a sniper, he often finds himself watching a specific chokepoint or corner and holding back possible enemy advancements. Peeker’s advantage makes this considerably harder.

Does peeker’s advantage exist in Counter-Strike 2?

Peeker’s advantage exists in Counter-Strike 2 but its actual impact on the game may be exaggerated.

Counter-Strike YouTuber WarOwl ran an experiment between Counter-Strike 2 and Counter-Strike Global Offensive to test for peeker’s advantage. He found that while peeker’s advantage exists across both games, the difference between them is negligible.

The results of his experiment show that, when playing in optimal conditions, there are roughly three frames of advantage for the peeker in both games. Instead, he theorized that much of the complaining about the game stems from visual changes and inconsistencies between what players see on-screen and what players see on the server.

This makes it unclear where actual systemic issues with Counter-Strike 2 end and where groupthink among Counter-Strike pros begins.
