FACEIT has made its ruling on Razer’s new Snap Tap keyboard technology, and reactions are mixed.
CS2 users who’ve been around since Phoon’s prime know all too well the havoc wreaked by script-enabled movement enthusiasts. Over the years, Valve has made hundreds of changes to Counter-Strike to nerf those who exploit scripts, but in 2024, there’s still null bind users. These players are generally looked down upon, but what if null bind becomes accessible on a keyboard’s board? If a keyboard has a feature similar to a null bind, it’s not considered cheating in a traditional sense. So, when Razer introduced its cutting-edge Snap Tap keyboard, pro players had opinions.
With the community already in a tizzy over the new tech, a FACEIT community manager has thrown ever more fuel on the Snap Tap fire.
Yes, Razer’s Snap Tap keyboard is allowed on FACEIT, and players who don’t own one can still use a null bind without getting banned.
In response to a fan’s question, FACEIT’s Darwin confirmed that Snap Tap is allowed likely because it doesn’t impact game integrity. In fact, null bind, a configuration setting that disables a specific button assignment, is also allowed. It’s worth noting that the null bind and Snap Tap features are both quite similar. Both of them cancel out one key press while capturing input from another key pressed at the same time.
Both Snap Tap and null bind walk a fine line between innovation and cheating by performing two actions with one key press. However, they are currently allowed on FACEIT, but players shouldn’t get ahead of themselves and add a Snap Tap to their cart.
According to Darwin, the keyboard is legal on FACEIT “currently.” The community manager advised against purchasing the keyboard solely because it’s allowed on FACEIT since that may not be the case in the future.
Snap Tap keyboard is still new, and while tournament organizers like ESL have greenlit the device, the community sentiment is mostly against this. For this reason, it’s unclear how long Snap Tap will remain legal in the pro scene. If it ever gets banned, FACEIT may also follow in its footsteps since it’s considered a hub for serious gamers.
