Kick has released a new feature called Predictions that lets viewers put their Channel Points to good use through engaging live betting events held during livestreams.
Kick and Twitch may be leading streaming platforms, but their content and user base often stand out as being rather different. While Twitch has strict policies that prohibit streamers from participating in gambling and betting content, some of Kick’s top creators actively stream themselves gambling and participating in online casinos.
Kick seemingly knows its user base well, as the platform unveiled a new feature that lets viewers actively participate in live betting themselves. Real money isn’t on the line, so the stakes aren’t as high, but it’s still an opportunity for content creators to increase overall user engagement during their streams.
Viewers can use Kick’s Predictions feature to bet Channel Points on one of two outcomes after a streamer or a stream’s chat moderator initiates a Predictions event.
Similar to the poll feature found on Twitch, streamers and their moderators can initiate a Prediction during a live stream. Viewers then see a banner on top of the stream’s chat that notifies them of a new prediction event. The banner details such information as the event’s topic and the number of votes both outcomes have at the current time. Clicking the Channel Points icon while a Prediction is ongoing shows just how long viewers still have to place any remaining bets on the outcome.
The banner above the stream’s chat and the Channel Points menu has a “Predict” option that viewers can interact with. Doing so opens the Predictions screen, which expands on the ongoing event’s details. This includes the exact number of points contributed, the odds and number of votes for both options, the return ratio based on the votes at that time, and the time left until the Prediction closes.
Here, viewers can also choose their desired option and bet a certain amount of Channel Points toward their favored outcome. Interacting with the predict option to contribute Channel Points locks the viewer from changing their selected outcome, so users should be careful about their choice. They can, however, still add more Channel Points in case they want to increase the stakes so long as the voting period hasn’t yet ended. Viewers can contribute anywhere between 10 and 250,000 Channel Points in a given Predictions event.
Viewers can’t place votes or increase their bet amount any further once the set time for betting ends. Those who selected the outcome the streamer or moderator confirms as the correct one will then be given their winnings. Those winnings are based on the betting odds after considering the accumulated points for both sides. Those who choose the wrong option lose the Channel Points they staked on the outcome. All points are refunded to their original owners if a correct outcome isn’t selected within 24 hours of the Predictions event concluding, ensuring that either one side wins, or the bet is canceled altogether and everyone gets their points back.
