The Esports World Cup (EWC) is all set to be one of the highlights for esports this year, with a massive $75 million prize pool on the line. Set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the region is currently affected by tensions involving Iran.
However, the Esports World Cup Foundation has said that it, along with the inaugural Esports Nations Cup (ENC), remains on schedule and that it has contingency plans in place.
According to a statement by the EWCF, the foundation is closely monitoring the situation and is working closely with relevant authorities.
Speaking about safety, the EWCF said, “The safety and well-being of all players, fans, partners, and staff is our priority. We have robust operational and contingency plans in place and will keep stakeholders informed should circumstances change.”
The EWC is scheduled to take from place July 6 to August 23. With a few months still to go, it remains to be seen if the ongoing conflict disrupts the competition. Currently, though, the EWCF has reassured stakeholders that it is continuing to prepare for the event as usual.
“EWC and ENC remain on track. Both events are scheduled several months from now, and preparations are proceeding as planned,” the EWCF said.
This year, the EWC is set to bring back its Club Partner Program. After last year’s success, the EWCF has committed to investing more resources to generate even better engagement from clubs and fans worldwide. According to a recent announcement, this program will invest $20 million in 40 top clubs.
The Esports Nations Cup (ENC), on the other hand, will take place from November 2 to 29, with participants representing different countries instead of esports organizations. Each country will have a National Team Partner along with a National Team Manager, who will be responsible for guiding and selecting their country’s representatives for the ENC.
Applications were open from January 1 to 31, and the EWCF will announce the respective partners before March 31.
