Epic Games has announced an overhaul of Fortnite Competitive and there might be a ban wave after the introduction of the new measures against cheaters.
Similar to other free-to-play games, players have been complaining about the presence of cheaters in Fortnite for a long time. While Epic Games bans the IPs of cheaters and rule violators, Fortnite players still feel the game has become infested with them. This has turned into a huge issue and many fans have asked Epic to do something about it.
It looks like Epic has listened to fans and wants to improve the Fortnite experience. On November 27, 2024, Epic Games announced new changes to ban cheaters and improve tournaments. Fans wonder whether the new policy will bring forth a ban wave against the cheaters who are ruining the battle royale.
Epic Games has announced it will take legal action against cheaters and cheat sellers.
In the upcoming changes, Epic is trying to make sure it can take sufficient action against cheaters and those who sell cheats. The company has also announced that anyone found teaming up with a cheater will face a minimum 28-day ban.
Furthermore, if a player receives a ban of 14 days or more they will not be able to participate in the FNCS tournament. This way, cheaters will have to mend ways or risk losing the chance of winning the potential cash prize usually associated with the tournaments.
To ensure the prize doesn’t fall into the wrong hands Epic has announced another change in Fortnite Competitive. The cash prizes will now only be placed at the highest levels of the tournaments. Furthermore, Epic has announced there will be legal ramifications against cheaters. This might deter potential cheaters as they will get into legal trouble if caught.
Taking a litigious route against cheaters has become a normal practice among competitive shooters. Valorant creator Riot Games and Call of Duty publisher Activision have taken similar measures, with cheat developers often shutting down as soon as they’re served paperwork.
If cheaters continue to violate the game rules players may witness a ban wave in Fortnite.
Ban waves are common when companies try to take down cheaters and make the games fair for all players. For instance, Apex Legends was hit with a ban wave that removed thousands of cheaters from the game.
Epic is likely trying to make sure that cheaters can use cheats to get an unfair advantage in tournaments. Cash prizes are associated with them so the incentive to cheat there is far greater.
