After consistently reaching new levels of success with each new title, 2022 saw FromSoftware reach absurd heights. Elden Ring exploded onto the gaming scene selling 13.4 million copies in the first five weeks of its launch.
Absolutely absurd from a title that pummels you into the ground. The grind doesn’t stop there, however.
A few weeks ago, FromSoftware tweeted a link to a career recruitment site. The tweet included a warm welcome to those looking to get into gaming development and images of all of their biggest works.
Like they needed an introduction. It seems like the team is gearing up for something big, but what could it be?
Back in 2018, Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki went on an interview to discuss future FromSoftware projects.
He stated that 3 and a half projects were in the works; a VR title named Déraciné, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and an unannounced project that he was silent on.
Since that interview, rumors have been running rampant that the developers were working on a sixth entry in the Armored Core series with plenty of leaked images pointing to it being a real possibility.
If you’re like me, you had no idea that FromSoftware made anything but Demon Souls, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne. However, there was a time when they worked on Armored Core with the first entry released on the PlayStation in 1997.
For the uninitiated, Armor Core is a title featuring pilots controlling mech robots fighting in wars for corporations. The series saw some decent success and helped put FromSoftware on the map.
Rumor has it that the return to the series has been in the works since 2017 with the last entry released back in 2013. If the rumors prove to be true, the game is in the final stages of development.
If this is the case – with every indication pointing to this being real – it might be a shock for fans who have only known FromSoftware for their recent Souls-like escapades.
Fear not though, as the rumors also point to this being very close in nature to the formula the team has perfected.
We’ll keep you updated with more as the news piles up.
