FromSoftware has finally revealed the Elden Ring DLC, subtitled Shadow of the Erdtree, and confirmed its release date.
In a sudden premiere on one of Bandai Namco’s international YouTube channels, the reveal trailer for the Elden Ring DLC finally dropped with the release date revealed as part of it. The game has received several smaller bits of DLC in the past, including the Colosseum Update that expanded PVP modes, but Shadow of the Erdtree is set to be a proper expansion rather than a smaller content release. Fans of the game have been eagerly awaiting more news about the DLC expansion ever since it was announced on February 28th, 2023.
The highly anticipated expansion has been in development for a while, despite FromSoftware being dodgy about any details regarding its release. Thankfully, fans finally got a clearer picture about what’s coming, and when they can look forward to it.
The Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will come out on June 21 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.
The game has sold over 20 million copies since its release, and it’s looking to sell more with a proper expansion. Elden Ring developer FromSoftware won the Game of the Year award from The Game Awards, Jaxon, and many others in 2022.
The trailer showcased some of the things players will experience in the expansion. As one might expect, players can expect more boss fights, tough enemies, and brutal combat, all FromSoftware staples in the upcoming DLC.
Shadow of the Erdtree is bringing a new area to explore, more enemies, more bosses, and plenty of new weapons to try.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is a full expansion, akin to Cyberpunk 2077: The Phantom Liberty or Bloodborne: The Old Hunters. It’s not a small piece of content but an expansion to the game’s world, story, and combat options. The expansion will bring new areas for the player to adventure in, plenty of new and old enemies to fight, and an extra arsenal of weapons to slay them.
It’s also possible that a new “game of the year edition” bundle will be released, packaging both Elden Ring and its DLC together. Elden Ring focused more on open-world exploration than any other Soulslike game in the past. The expansion will continue the new emphasis on player exploration and choice in the expansion as well.
