Easy guide to solve the secure boot error in Valorant

valorant-iso-handson

Running Valorant on certain systems can be a bit of a pain because of the infamous secure boot issue.

Valorant is usually a forgiving game to run on PC. Many players with less powered PCs have reported not struggling in competitive play, even if their graphics don’t look as sleek as the trailers. People have found clever ways to optimize Valorant’s performance on so-called “potato PCs.” However, some people fail to even run Valorant.  They are often greeted by the dreaded secure boot error, which makes it so Valorant can’t run.

The error stems from Valorant’s use of the anti-cheat engine Vanguard, which requires a higher level of trust on the BIOS level to run properly. Thankfully, the fix isn’t that complicated.

How to fix the secure boot error for Valorant

First, ensure the secure boot settings caused the secure boot error. These errors often accompany a failure window, which points out secure boot as the culprit. Valorant error codes VAN90001, VAN90002, and VAN9003 are the error codes that should be displayed.

Steps to find and enable secure boot for Valorant

  1. Restart your PC
  2. Press the BIOS key. The key will be displayed on the first screen, usually one of the Function keys or Delete.
  3. In the BIOS Menu, go to the BOOT option.
  4. Look for the Secure Boot setting and enable it
  5. Verify if BIOS Mode is set to UEFI.
  6. Secure Boot Value must be set to On.

Some errors, like VAN9001, will also require TPM enabled.

Steps to find and enable TPM:

  1. Open the Start Menu on Windows
  2. Type tpm.msc and click on the result
  3. If the PC doesn’t support TPM, it will display “Compatible TPM cannot be found: Compatible Trusted Platform Module (TPM) cannot be found on this computer. Verify that this computer has a 1.2 TPM or later and that it is turned on in the BIOS.”

If you already have TPM enabled, check if Valorant can now run. If you still need to enable TPM to solve the secure boot Valorant error, follow the steps below.

1. Restart the PC

2. Press the BIOS key

3. Find the Security Tab and open it

4. Find the TPM option

5. Set its value to “Enabled”

6. Save and Exit from BIOS
