Dplus KIA takes down Gen.G 2-0 in the LCK for the first time since 2021

DK wins against Gen.G 2-0 in the LCK Rounds 1-2

Dplus KIA just took down Gen.G in the LCK 2026 Rounds 1-2. This is DK’s first victory against Gen.G after 18 consecutive losses. Additionally, this 2-0 makes the LCK giant look unexpectedly beatable this split.

Both games went a similar way in this series. In the first game, both teams traded blows early on until Gen.G set themselves ahead with repeated fight wins.

Up three drakes, they started the fourth. There though, DK won the fight and even stole the drake with Bard. Afterwards, Dplus KIA steamrolled their opponent and took down their Nexus mere minutes later.

The second game was a scrappier one. Both teams traded plays early on, and drakes and fights in the mid game. As DK started pulling ahead, Gen.G claimed the lead back with a Baron fight. Somehow though, Dplus immediately won the game from that position.

Ending DK’s loss streak against Gen.G

Until this match, Gen.G consistently won against DK with 18 consecutive victories in official Riot Games tournaments, despite changes in rosters and metas.

The last time that DK had won against Gen.G was in Summer 2021. Four and a half years later, they finally break the curse and take down a Gen.G that’s at the peak of their form.

Or are they?

Gen.G’s worst regular season since 2023

Gen.G has been the team to beat ever since acquiring their current roster at the start of 2025. After losing a few close calls in the LCK Cup 2025, they went on to only lose two more series for the entirety of the year.

Eventually, they fell during the Worlds Semifinal as always, but as expected, they came back in 2026 stronger than ever. Gen.G didn’t lose a single series for the entirety of the LCK Cup 2026. The Korean superteam was then poised to march through First Stand until G2 Esports abruptly stopped them out of nowhere.

Since then, things haven’t been the same regionally. Losing to KT Rolster and now to DK puts them at 2-2. With nameplates off, there is nothing concerning about this, and they will probably still finish first and qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational 2026.

However, this is Gen.G we’re talking about. In five of the past six splits, this team didn’t lose more than a single match in the regular season. The last time they lost more than two was in Spring 2023, when they finished 13-5.

After losing to DK, Gen.G is now tied for their worst regular season since Spring 2023 only four games into the split. This result comes in stark contrast with their dominating LoL odds for the split.

With how they dismantled T1 and BNK FearX, Gen.G remains one of the best teams in the region for sure, and likely still the best. However, KT and Hanwha Life Esports have a serious chance of passing them for MSI qualification if they don’t fix their armor.
