Dota 2 unveils Monster Hunter collaboration with Capcom

Dota 2 x Monster Hunter

Dota 2 just received perhaps the most surprising update of its existence as Valve announced the Dota 2 x Monster Hunter crossover in collaboration with Capcom.

Announced late on Nov. 10, via the official Dota 2 blog, the new collaboration brings new item sets, new pets, an in-game hunt and crafting system, and of course, monsters.

Dota 2 reveals in-game Monster Hunter event and game

As mentioned, the surprising collaboration will bring some Monster Hunter staples to the game, including a Palico courier, a Poogie pet, and some familiar Monster Hunter beasties to accompany selected heroes.Dragon Knight, will perhaps more accurately be called Rathalos Knight after today’s update, as he can now transform into the iconic creature. Similarly, Beastmaster will find himself calling on the help of a friendly Bullfango.

There’s sets for a half dozen heroes, each with familiar monster hunter costumes (We see the Wei persona has donned the iconic Kirin armor). And there’s familiar Monster Hunter music, sprays, crafting materials, and more. As in a lot more, if you load up a game right now, there will be monsters and other MH critters running around the place.

And, because this is an over-the-top Dota 2 event, there’s also a crafting system, a Hero Atlas with some new lore just to keep you on your toes, and in-game missions and hunts to keep you grinding for more MH gear. These missions will spawn before the game beings, allow you to pick a hunt target. If you kill your target before they kill you, you’ll receive extra crafting items when you win a game.

This isn’t the first time Dota 2 has teamed up with other games for collaborations, but it’s the first in a long time. Players with long memories may remember the Ōkami collaboration in 2017 when the game was released on Steam. Valve’s partnership with Capcom evidently wasn’t just a one-off thing, as they returned again for this new collaboration.

While some fans may pine for Diretide or Frostivus, personally, we’re happy there’s some variety, and that Valve can surprise us. Trust us: We’ve covered other live service games, and slog of rotational events that come every year does get boring.

Dota 2 x Monster Hunter will run for the next three months (although with Valve time, it could potentially last longer). You can play it right now. Stick with Jaxon.gg for more Dota 2 news, and upcoming guides for the Monster Hunter collaboration.
