This weekend kicked off D23 Expo, a showcase of everything Disney for fans worldwide.
Aside from the movie and entertainment side, Disney kicked off the event with a digital showcase focusing on everything gaming for 23 minutes. If we’re being fair, the showcase wasn’t the greatest.
That being said, there were plenty of neat little trailers and a big reveal to close it out. In case you missed it, here’s a quick recap of the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase.
Tron: Identity visual novel
Kicking off the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase was a rather interesting new direction for the TRON franchise.
Tron: Identity is a mystery, visual novel that sees players take the role of Query. As the detective, your goal is to uncover the truth regarding said mystery in a deep dark Grid.
Tron: Identity is being created by Bithell Games known for previous work on games like John Wick Hex and Thomas Was Alone. The team’s newest title is set to do something different, and this could turn out to be really cool if done right.
Tron: Identity is set to release in 2023.
Marvel World of Heroes
Pokémon Go developer Niantic is back again with another augmented reality title. From the game’s description, it sounds that Marvel World of Heroes will be a similar project to Pokémon Go.
Players will create their own heroes and be tasked with patrolling their surrounding areas to defeat crimes. There will be plenty of supervillains and missions to undertake in order to prevent evil from succeeding.
Marvel World of Heroes is scheduled to launch on mobile devices next year. You can pre-register on the game’s official site.
Midnight Suns release date confirmed
Marvel’s Midnight Suns made an appearance with a brand new trailer showing off plenty of familiar faces.
Firaxis Games has made a name for themselves with XCOM with Midnight Suns following the same path. I will say, despite the direction the game is going, this title actually looks solid.
After much delay, Marvel’s Midnight Suns finally has a release date attached to it. The game will launch on December 2, 2022, for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
However, last generation and Switch players will still have to wait until a later date.
Skydance New Media Marvel project
This is the moment everyone was waiting for. Amy Hennig and her team revealed the Marvel ensemble they’ve been working on.
Be sure to check out our full breakdown of what to expect from this title.
TLDR; Amy Hennig was the former creative director of the Uncharted series. She’s been around the industry for some time, and this project could be following the same style as the Uncharted games which is a great sign.
It’ll most likely be some time before we get any more information. However, the brief snippet and information shared are enough to get the hype train rolling.
