Valve finally fixed a notorious jump glitch that’s plagued CS2 since open beta, but not all maps got equal treatment.
Counter-Strike 2 was poised to replace Global Offensive as the de-facto first-person shooter in Valve’s library, but it still has several issues. Half a year later, Counter-Strike 2 lacks many features available in Global Offensive such as 1v1 and multiple competitive maps.
On top of those missing features, Counter-Strike 2 also ran afoul of players for its technical issues. One of the most notorious are various jump glitches sprinkled throughout the game’s many maps. Positioning plays a key role in competitive Counter-Strike 2, and these bugs made otherwise competent players unfairly lose games.
Valve fixed the CS2 jump glitch on the map Ancient in July 2024.
Before the fix, players could not jump on certain crates found at bombsite A due to clipping issues. As a result, what should have been an organic part of the map that allowed for defensive play became useless. Many players complained about the glitch, especially because Ancient is such an iconic map in competitive play.
According to HLTV, the most played map on LAN was Ancient by a significant margin. Valve finally fixed the issues with the crates, and players can better plan games when planting in bombsite A. However, Ancient’s jump glitch isn’t the only one in CS2.
Ryan “Freakazoid” Abadir recently encountered a jump glitch on the map Nuke. During the game, Abadir tried multiple times to jump on top of a barrel for a better position, but the game did not allow it. Naturally, the streamer lost the round, rage-quitting right after. Many fans have become bitter over Valve’s treatment of their most played game.
In contrast, Dota 2 recently celebrated its 11th anniversary with a fully-fledged fighting game mode complete with frame data. Dota 2 boasts lower high player counts, yet fans allege it gets far more attention from Valve than Counter-Strike 2. Many players still report an abundance of cheaters, with many resorting to FACEIT to have a wholesome experience. Notably, the CS2 jump glitch still exists with third-party matchmaking services.
Overall, the Ancient jump glitch is simply the tip of the iceberg for Counter-Strike 2. While bug fixes are appreciated, most CS2 fans wish these would come more regularly.
