Details revealed on Valorant Unreal Enginge 5 switch, more

Valorant dev update unreal engine 5

A new Valorant developer update showcases changes that will be made to the game soon, offering players more information on an upcoming transition to Unreal Engine 5, the game’s new replay system, the newly announced multifactor authentication, and more.

Valorant is one the most-played first-person shooter in the world, with many content creators streaming the game across various platforms. The game also has a strong competitive scene with skilled teams competing to win large cash prizes and gain fame. Valorant developers made a video for the game’s five-year anniversary and announced many additions that Riot has planned for the tactical shooter. The much-awaited replay system will be available for players soon, but that’s not all. Riot has plans to upgrade Valorant from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5, add multifactor authentication, introduce a new map, and more.

Valorant switching to Unreal Engine 5, adds multifactor authentication

Riot Games has confirmed that Valorant will soon transition to Unreal Engine 5, while the developer is also seeking to combat smurfs in the game with multifactor authentication.

The dev update announced many new additions that excited fans. Chief among them may be the game’s replay system, which players have been requesting for a long time. Replays will be available with patch 11.06 in September for PCs. Console players will have to wait as the replay feature will be released for consoles later in 2025.

Riot also teased a new map that will be released with patch 11.00 and showcased its gameplay. The map will be available to play in competitive mode from day one, with reduced rank ratings. RR losses on the new map are halved for one patch cycle of two weeks but wins are still 100%. Riot stated this is so players can adjust to the map and feel more proficient on it when it’s time to compete.

Riot has also announced its plans to combat smurfing, which many players claim to still be a huge problem in the game. Experienced players competing against unsuspecting low-level or even new players can make the game unfair and ruin the experience for some. The developer will introduce multifactor authentication requiring players to verify their identity using an app or SMS. It’s stated that this will be used mainly for suspicious cases but will be added to all competitive accounts.

The last and maybe the biggest change Valorant will see is the upgrade to Unreal Engine 5 in patch 11.02. The upgrade will be released at the end of July and the patch’s size will be larger than usual due to the change, which players with slower download speeds will want to be aware of. Valorant developers claim that the update to UE5 will open up countless possibilities for the game’s future while keeping the game’s feel similar to its current state. Devs stated the upgrade will bring higher frame rates and make patch downloads faster in the future.
