It’s been confirmed that Destiny is coming to mobile, bt what makes Rising different from the main series?
Destiny fans were concerned when Bungie announced that Destiny 2 was no longer getting large expansions and a rumored Destiny spin-off game was canceled. Now it looks like the partnership between NetEase Games and Bungie has resulted in Destiny Rising, a mobile game set in the Destiny universe. And as with any big mobile spinoff, fans better prepare themselves for micro-transactions.
Here is what’s been confirmed about Destiny Rising.
Destiny Rising is a mobile game that takes place during an alternate timeline in Destiny’s universe before the Lost City. The story goes that humanity has broken free and is now attempting an uprising against alien forces with the help of the Iron Lords. A new generation of Lightbearers will lead the charge.
The mobile app will have gamers choose from a selection of Destiny heroes rather than creating their own Guardian. Some of these heroes will be new to Destiny fans. Each of these heroes will have a unique backstory and abilities to match. While the heroes are new, Destiny players will recognize Iron Lords, Warlords, and more as well as encounter enemies like Hive and Vex. This was all seen in the new trailer released on October 14, 2024, which has some fans hopeful that the mobile game will do the Destiny universe justice.
There will be single, co-op, and competitive multiplayer modes as well as PvE modes.
NetEase has not yet confirmed if micro-transactions will appear in Destiny Rising but it’s more than likely. The free-to-play game has a wide range of weapons that come in a variety of rarities. Since Destiny 2 had a lot of micro-transactions, it’s probable that they will also be present in Destiny Rising to unlock weapons, cosmetics, and more. NetEase is also known for its micro-transactions in games like Diablo Immortal, leaving some gamers concerned.
Players can join the closed alpha for Destiny Rising from NetEase’s official website.
NetEase has announced that a limited access closed alpha test will be available for players in the United States and Canada to join. The closed alpha will begin November 1, 2024. Developers have shared that a “good part of the main campaign will be available” as well as one map to be used for all game modes.
Go to NetEase’s website and scroll to the bottom of the Destiny Rising page to register. The the site asks players to provide their phone model, email, and country. There will then be an optional survey that asks players which PC and mobile games they’ve played in the last six months as well as their occupation.
There, gamers can also join the Destiny Rising Discord to get updates from the developer and find other fans to play games with.
