German Counter-Strike 2 player MAUschine has been handed a 10-year ban from the CAGGTUS Leipzig CS2 tournament after striking an opponent live on stage.
As seen on the live footage, the 30-year-old player punched Fabian “Spidergum” Salomon during the award ceremony of the competition, which is the biggest CS2 LAN party in Germany.
The incident happened in a flash, almost leaving other players, as well as the host, baffled for a few moments who were mid-ceremony.
Eventually, the crowd caught up to the situation, and the host ordered MAUschine to be brought down from the stage.
According to the footage and reports from online outlets, the CS2 player lost his cool when Spidergum mimicked his victory calls during the match in the Legends lobby, which was made sourer when MAUschine’s team lost the bout.
Based on live footage of the tournament, Spidergum was seen yelling, “papuchulo” after winning a round in the match, which was supposed to be a victory call of MAUschine.
According to available reports, the tournament organizer has announced a 10-year ban for MAUschine, saying that it is not tolerant of any kind of assaults against other players. The company has also reported the incident to ESIC (Esports Integrity Commission) for further investigation.
On the other hand, the organization that backs Spidergum, Regnum4games, has issued a formal statement, saying that it will be providing Spidergum with legal support and will try to make the ban permanent.
The incident has gained a lot of attention as fans have started comparing the moment with the 2022 Oscars incident where Hollywood actor Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock, after taking offense from one of his jokes.
However, despite the online discourse, Spidergum is seen downplaying the situation as he wrote on X, “Bullseye from Mauschine, better aim than with the AWP and especially on stream.”
