The CS2 Major series will finally return to its home continent after seven years for the Austin Major.
The Boston Major maintains a special place in the heart of American Counter-Strike 2 fans. Not only was it the last North American major, but it was also the last time an NA team took home the game’s most prestigious trophy. The majors have taken place all over the world in the past seven years, but it has never returned to Valve’s own homeland. However, after years of waiting, the biggest series in Counter-Strike will finally come home with the BLAST CS2 Austin Major.
Here’s everything we know about the event, when it will take place, and what we know about ticket sales.
BLAST will host the CS2 Austin Major in June 2025.
The tournament organizers announced the event through its official website, confirming the date and location. The tournament will feature 24 from all of Counter-Strike’s major regions, which means that North American teams are guaranteed multiple spots at the event. BLAST has not confirmed the exact date of the event, but it will likely confirm a schedule sometime in early 2025.
The Austin Major will feature the standard major format of a regional RMR series followed by a three-stage tournament. BLAST will put a $1,250,000 prize pool for the event, the standard for Valve championships. It’s unlikely that NA will see another victory on home soil, but fans can always dream. If the IEM Dallas crowd was any indication, Texas CS2 fans like their arenas loud and proud.
BLAST has not announced ticket sales for the CS2 Austin Major, but they will likely go on sale via Ticketmaster sometime in early 2025.
This estimate is based on ticket sales for previous Valve majors, which tend to go live only a few months before the event. Based on the ticket prices for the Copenhagen Major, the cheapest tickets could be as little as $55 with premium options going up to several hundred dollars. The organizer may choose to raise ticket prices due to the location and limited seating.
BLAST has also confirmed the venue for the CS2 Austin Major. The Moody Center, located close to the University of Texas Austin, has a seating capacity of 15,000. That implies that there will be a hard limit on ticket sales. The major will be the first major esports event at the venue, but Austin has previously hosted multiple esports events including DreamHack Austin and Red Bull Battlegrounds. Valve also hosted a Dota 2 major in Texas with the 2022 Arlington Major.
