Stage 1 of the BLAST Austin Major will bring together a motley assortment of teams, but arguably the best match of the opening round is OG against Complexity Gaming.
The opening rounds of Counter-Strike majors are always fun. Regional standouts get the opportunity to get onto the server with fringe tier-one teams. Not only that but the opening rounds are best-of-ones, giving teams plenty of opportunity for an upset and for viewer pass pick’ems to get busted.
So what are OG’s chances against Complexity Gaming, and are they good enough to bet on? Here’s a full breakdown of this BLAST Austin Major opening match.
Complexity Gaming will play in a best-of-one match in the first stage of the BLAST Austin Major. The BLAST Austin Major is using the standard Swiss-style group stage format, albeit with more stages than previous majors. Teams need to win three out of five matches in order to move on.
After a disastrous start to 2025, Complexity Gaming pulled together a strong run in April that included a top-four finish in PGL Bucharest. That run, which included multiple wins over top-10 teams, hinted that the team has something to it. While an early exit from IEM Melbourne undercut the team’s standing, it still finds itself as one of the hottest names entering the opening stage of the BLAST Austin Major.
Complexity Gaming was last seen at IEM Masters Melbourne, where it suffered a group stage elimination. This was shortly after the team qualified for the BLAST Austin Major:
Complexity Gaming’s 2025 roster is in attendance for IEM Dallas, but the team brought in longtime Team Liquid coach Eric “adreN” Hoag for the event:
Complexity Gaming has been able to catch teams off-guard with its strength on Anubis and Train, though it’s also 4-1 on Nuke so far in 2025. While that’s a good sign, the team has struggled on Dust 2 and Inferno. Complexity typically bans Mirage.
OG has been hacking away at the tier-two scene all year, most recently competing in the ThunderPick World Championship EU Series and CCT Season 3:
OG was technically been competing with just four players, but the organization officially signed Nico “nicoodoz” Tamjidi after an extended trial run.
OG has a very strong record on Anubis, Nuke, and Ancient, winning 69% or more of games on those maps since adding nicoodoz. The team has a winning record on Inferno, but is closer to 50-50 on Mirage and Dust 2. It’s also off to a 0-2 start on Train. It’s worth keeping in mind that these numbers come from OG been grinding on the tier-two circuit throughout 2025. The team hasn’t played on LAN since 2024.
Complexity Gaming and OG haven’t faced off since July 2024. OG has undergone an almost complete roster overhaul since then, with F1KU being the only player that remains on the team since then. This means that there isn’t any head-to-head data for the current iterations of these teams.
OG is a moderate underdog against OG in their BLAST Austin Major opener. The moneylines are 1.66 against 2.2, which is a fairly narrow margin between these teams. Though Complexity Gaming has bigger wins against better teams, betting sites clearly like the European squad’s consistency and larger body of work.
Complexity Gaming is more than capable of beating OG. The NA stalwarts have beaten much tougher competition than OG on multiple occasions. That said, keep in mind that this is a best-of-one so there’s plenty of opportunity for an upset.
