The future is Witcher

CD Projekt Red is planning multiple Witcher games

  • CD Projekt Red have confirmed that The Witcher series will be expanding past more than the announced new entry.
  • Cyberpunk will also see some love as the team is determined to make the most out of the IP.

Long ago, before Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red was known for making a small RPG series called The Witcher. 2007 introduced gamers to Gerald of River and his journey before its epic conclusion in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

It’s been seven years since the last entry if you don’t count the show and the upcoming next-gen port. Fans have been clamoring for a new entry, especially after Cyberpunk 2077.

If you’ve been following the team, you already know that the Witcher is making its return.

It’ll be quite some time before we get any new info, but a recent earnings call has given plenty of new details.

More Witcher, more fun

CD Projekt Red held a half-year call for the year 2022 in which they spoke at length about the future of the team.

A few notable highlights from the call included:

  • Despite Phantom Liberty being the only expansion, CD PR is looking to take the Cyberpunk IP further.
  • Update 1.6 brought a performance mode for Xbox Series S players allowing them to play Cyberpunk 2077 at 60 fps.
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen port is planned to release in Q4 2022.

When asked about the Witcher saga and the possibility of multiple games, Adam Kiciński said:

“Sure. We’ve said there would be a new saga, but of course now we’re preproducing the first game – but we have more than one game in mind. Our first saga consisted of three games; now we’re thinking about more than one game, but for now we’re working on the first game from the second Witcher saga.”

It’s no secret that The Witcher will be the team’s main focus. Wild Hunt elevated the series to insane heights.

For now, though, fans will have to settle for the next-gen port and the Netflix series.
