Apex Legends players are always looking for new ways to boost heir skills, but some methods like REWASD blur the line between fair play and exploitation.
REWASD is a third-party application that enables customization and remapping of controller buttons, paddles, and inputs for games like Apex Legends. It allows users to create custom button layouts, assign complex actions to paddles, and combine multiple actions into a single button press through macros. While it’s mainly marketed towards offline gaming and people with disabilities, some players use it to gain a competitive advantage in Apex Legends. With REWASD, players can optimize their controller settings to improve aim, movement, and overall gameplay experience.
Apex Legends players may think they can use REWASD to their advantage, but Respawn strongly disagrees.
REWASD is among the third-party tools not allowed by Respawn in Apex Legends. Using REWASD to gain an unfair advantage in gameplay can result in a ban.
While REWASD use was always discouraged in Apex Legends, and players would often get banned for using it, the September 12 patch reaffirms Respawn’s stance on “suspicious applications.” Apex Legends’ latest feature flags applications like REWASD and similar tools as suspicious, blocking the game’s launch. Merely having these applications installed on a computer, even if not actively used, prevents the game from loading.
The gaming community largely supports Respawn’s decision to restrict REWASD, acknowledging its exploitation by malicious players seeking a competitive edge. However, some players, particularly those in the disabled gaming community who rely on REWASD’s accessibility features, express frustration. They argue that offline applications should be permitted rather than requiring complete uninstallation to play Apex Legends.
Interestingly, controller players with REWASD access hold a significant advantage over keyboard and mouse users. REWASD enables complex movements with a single button press, whereas KBM users must execute these actions manually. This disparity likely contributes to Respawn’s stringent stance against gameplay-assisting applications, ultimately banning REWASD in Apex Legends.
