Bwipo calls out Shopify, sparks LTA drama, asks for scrim streams

Bwipo Shopify LTA

Professional League of Legends player and famed top laner Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau made some comments about Shopify Rebellion and other LTA teams, sparking drama and starting a wider debate among the community.

Bwipo started his LoL career in 2018 when he became the substitute top laner for Fnatic, backing up Paul “sOAZ” Boyer. After Worlds 2021, Team Liquid acquired the player from Fnatic and he played with the organization till 2023. In November of the same year, FlyQuest announced Bwipo as their starting top laner for the 2024 season.

Bwipo was in the news for his erratic behavior on stream before Worlds 2024, which led to him visiting a mental health specialist. The LoL player is in the limelight again after he claimed that Shopify and other, similar teams simply don’t want to become better than they already are. This has started a huge debate within the community around North American League of Legends, and fans are debating whether Bwipo is right.

Bwipo calls out Shopify, other LTA teams for lack of commitment

League of Legends pro Bwipo has stated that Shopify and other teams have refused public scrims on stream with FlyQuest and has questioned their commitment to improving at the game’s highest level of play.

Bwipo said that seven out of eight North American teams didn’t want to scrim on stream versus FlyQuest. He elaborated that Fly is the team to beat right now with how well they are currently performing. The LoL player claimed that the team wants to show the rest of the world what makes them winners. He believes that most LTA teams are coming to the stage unprepared and is actively questioning their determination to beat other top teams.

The FlyQuest player claimed that by looking at their plays and reviewing scrim results, other teams can perform better, and that’s important for longevity of the overall competition. He wants other teams to scrim with him and to stream those scrims to viewers. The pro player stated that he stole the idea from another LoL organization that is currently doing it and it’s a great way to engage fans and do better, a clear reference to the wild popularity of European side Los Ratones. He continued that he is at a point where he doesn’t want to be scared of others outperforming him because they know how he plays.

The response among fans has been divided, with some feeling that Bwipo is brutally honest, even if he can come off as arrogant. Some claim that Fly has the most to risk by revealing their secrets and leveling up the whole region, thus it’s impressive for Bwipo and his teammates to offer to practice publicly. Others feel that Bwipo is looking to start drama with his remarks and is increasing the toxicity that LoL arguably already has too much of.
