Bohemian Guardians face Riot match-fixing probe after bizarre Czech LoL esports series

Hitpoint Master team Bohemian Guardians under investigation for match fixing

Riot Games and Hitpoint Master have launched an investigation into the team Bohemian Guardians for possible match-fixing. A series of unusual events happened around their last match against BRUTE in the Czech ERL on May 3.

Following reports, league officials launched an investigation to determine whether it was match-fixing or innocent acts.

Hitpoint Master and Riot launch a match-fixing investigation into Bohemian Guardians

On May 3, Bohemian Guardians faced BRUTE, a 0-3 team in the Hitpoint Master ERL, with BG being 1-2.

A few hours before the series, BG kicked their mid-laner Fatih “Robi” Kiliç along with their two coaches.

Instead, they fielded an emergency substitute Nikolaos “Elitex” Aspropotamitis whose last competitive game took place four years ago. With the fact that Elitex is friends with the owner, one of the two assistant coaches decides to leave as well.

The game started with the new mid laner getting solo killed at levels three, six, and 12. After a comedy of errors on both sides, BRT takes the first game.

Despite both teams’ best efforts, BG won game two. However, their jungler allegedly had technical issues throughout the game. As such, Bohemian Guardians replaced him with a second emergency substitute mid-series. The new jungler Odysseas “Odi” Chatzigiannis is another player without any competitive experience.

Unlike the second one, game three goes terribly for BG and they lost the series.

On the last map, Elitex got solo killed by his lane opponent at levels two, three, and four. In total, as a series of overextensions, poor trades, and refusal to recall, he got solo killed ten times over the series.

The final strange element was on LoL betting sites. People put in hefty amounts of money on BRUTE, up to $10,764.04 by a single bettor on one website. BRT was 0-3 at that time, and no bet on BG exceeded $230.

Following all this, Hitpoint forwarded the information to the Riot Games compliance team. An investigation will determine whether this was match-fixing or merely a series of unfortunate events.
