Yasuo is one of the most popular champions in League of Legends for both good reasons and bad. He is mechanically gifted, and when the best are playing him, there aren’t many champions better to watch than Yasuo. He also has amazing scaling; even if you’re going 0/10, there is always an opportunity for Yasuo players to get back into the game. And with so many champions having knockup abilities, his ultimate is easy to use. So what can you do to stop him? Well, pick one of the best Yasuo counters, of course! We’ve prepared a breakdown of the top choices, as well as some strategic tips to keep him in line.
The best way to counter Yasuo in League of Legends is to ensure he does not get a lead in the early game. He wants to dash through the wave to get to you, so don’t let him by not shoving the wave towards his tower, as that is what he wants you to do. Just focus on last-hitting minions because that’ll force him to do the same (keeping the wave away from both towers) or make him push into your tower which is risky for him.

Vladimir is an annoying champion for Yasuo to go up against. Yasuo can’t really trade with Vladimir because his Q plus passive will allow him to consistently scale back to full health rather quickly, while Yasuo will have to use health pots or play extremely carefully. On top of that, Vladimir is one of the best scaling champions in League of Legends, and once he has his core items, Yasuo is going to struggle to do anything in the late game against him.
Furthermore, even if Yasuo attempts to use his Q to send him airborne, Vladimir can use his W to pool away from him. So there isn’t really any way that Vladimir can die in the one versus one to Yasuo (unless you REALLY fumble the bag).

Vex is a solid counter to Yasuo from a laning phase perspective. Yasuo relies heavily on trading, but Vex can outdamage him in the early game. Vex’s passive, when charged, will fear the enemy when she uses her next basic ability. Like an Annie stun, Vex can simply hold this until Yasuo is looking to engage. That way, he is going to play more timidly and not go for those aggressive trades, which works in Vex’s favour.
If Yasuo does dash in, Vex players can use W, which provides her with a shield while also damaging nearby enemies. Another great ability is her E, which slows and damages opponents hit in the zone. So if Yasuo does go for an attack, Vex can hit him with a slow and a burst ability before he gets off his second Q attack.

Fizz is one of the worst champions to play against in League of Legends, especially for Yasuo players. This mid laner can dodge whenever Yasuo goes for a Q knockup. Like with Vladimir, if there is a champion that can dodge Yasuo’s main ability, he’s in trouble. And once his abilities are on cooldown, that is when Fizz is going to get the most joy. Fizz has great gap closers with his E and also his Q, which will lunge through an enemy, whether that be a minion or Yasuo himself.
The key condition for fizz in this matchup is to make sure that Yasuo’s Windwall is on cooldown, because this will stop Fizz’s ultimate from reaching its intended target. Once that is down, he has no defences against you, and with his shield consistently down, he is no match for Fizz.

Renekton has started to gain traction as both a top lane counter to Yasuo. Renekton is one of the strongest early game champions when it comes to facing another melee champion. His W stun when his fury bar is charged up does a deceptive amount of damage, while his Q will also help him sustain any early trades against Yasuo. Use Q to remove Yasuo’s shield, and if he decides to get close to you, your double dash will be able to close any gap.
While Yasuo can also glide through minions, he can’t recast his E to the minion he just dashed from, whereas Renekton can recast his E if it goes through a minion or champion. And if he does get his ultimate off onto you, your Dominus ultimate will provide enough sustain, meaning you should never be dying to Yasuo in the one versus one. His Windwall is ineffective against Renekton as all of his abilities are melee, meaning he only has his Q and E available in the laning phase.

Taliyah is a solid champion against Yasuo as she can do a lot of damage from range while not allowing Yasuo to get close to her at any point in the laning phase. Yasuo only has Windwall up for a few seconds, so even though the wall can block Taliyah’s abilities, you just have to be patient, and the opportunities will open up for you.
If Yasuo tries to engage, Taliyah can simply use her W to push Yasuo away, combo that with her E, and she can stun Yasuo in place. One of the great reasons Taliyah has been used at the 2025 League of Legends World Championship is for her zoning capabilities. Weavers’ Wall is a great tool for blocking off enemies from getting to the objectives; this is the same for Yasuo. He is a champion who relies on teamfighting and knockups to get the most out of his kit, but if he is not able to get into the fight because Taliyah is zoning him away, what use is he?
