When you need an amazing weakside champion in League of Legends, Renekton is the champ to go with. This crocodile has amazing survivability thanks to his Q, which heals him, as well as his ultimate which increases his health bar. He also has great one-versus-one capabilities and is able to beat most of the top lane champions. He can go to the sidelane to create pressure, but his main strengths lie in the teamfight, where he can flank to try and assassinate the squishy targets. But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows for him, especially if he is against the best Renekton counters in LoL.
The key to beating Renekton in League of Legends is primarily through range. He has gap closers, but players will be hesitant once some range is involved. Champions like Kayle are perfect because even if he has a lead early, she is going to completely destroy him in the 1v1. Teemo, although he has range, is not a great fit. Renekton players will simply flash on top of Teemo with Ignite and one-shot him because of his small health.
He is a powerful laner, so you need someone who is going to hold their own and force him to constantly heal with his fully stacked fury. That is where his damage is at its best, so make sure you keep him honest with his Q. He will naturally get it back when he uses his ultimate, so try to force him to heal up that way, because he is significantly weaker afterwards.

Gangplank is one of the better champions to pick against Renekton in League of Legends. Not only because of the one versus one in the late game when he is going to destroy him, but because even if the lane technically goes even, GP is going to have the advantage due to getting more gold from his passive. GP has the range advantage, and if Renekton does go in for his W, Gangplank can get out of it with his Oranges, which will remove any CC.

As GP levels up his barrels, they will be too much for Renekton to handle. Not only that, but if he hits Renekton with one of them, they’re going to rip Renekton a new one.

Although Renekton is a great champion at most stages of the game, he has a very hard time killing Illaoi. Firstly, Illaoi does a lot of damage through her tentacles, which are hard to kill for Renekton because he’s a close-range champion. That means Illaoi is going to be able to spawn quite a few of them, which will come in handy when she has her ultimate up, because the more of them she has up, the more damage she will do.
Illaoi is just an amazing champion to play in melees because she is able to not only scrap with enemy champions, but deal consistent damage from afar with her tether. And even though Renekton can escape the tether before she kills him, he’s going to get hurt.

Kled is a useful champion to pick against Renekton. He is an early game bully and can bait many top laners into thinking he is weak because of his passive where he dismounts, but he actually packs a punch and can kill Renekton players if they’re not careful. So you have a champion in Kled who can match the early game strength that Renekton brings to the table, but also can be more useful than him. Kled’s ultimate allows him and his teammates to charge at the enemy team, so if a squishy target is out of position, they can be considered as good as dead.
Renekton does have strong teamfighting abilities with his W and E, but he can be marked out of fights by enemy champions that have hard CC. So Kled is going to be just fine in the one-versus-one, and can impact the fights a lot more than Renekton can. With his ultimate, he can be in a sidelane without teleport, but can join the fight much quicker because of his ultimate, so he has the jump on Renekton if they both don’t have TP.

Kayle is a late-game monster, and when she gets to that stage, you can consider the 1v1 to be heavily skewed in Kayle’s favour. She takes a while to scale, which is where Renekton can benefit the most. But as with all melee champions, once Renekton encounters someone with range, he has no choice but to respect the range and play passively, or try and all-in them. Unfortunately, Kayle’s ultimate negates this.
Kayle’s range scales with her levels, and once she reaches level 16, she is essentially a roaming turret with an ultimate that can save someone’s life. Kayle will melt Renekton down in the sidelane due to her range and attack speed advantage.

Malphite is one of the most deceptive champions in League of Legends. You don’t think he will deal a lot of damage in lane, but you’ve probably seen an enemy Malphite solo-kill your top laner more times than you would like to admit. Although he churns through mana in the early game, Malphite does a lot of damage with his Q, especially if they have the Arcane Comet rune active.
Malphite’s Q also provides a slow, so if Renekton does engage, he will be slowed by the Malphite Q. There isn’t really any way for Malphite to die in the lane to Renekton in a one-versus-one match. His passive provides a big shield that has to be broken before revealing his actual health bar. And even then, Renekton doesn’t have enough gap closers to chase him down because his ultimate will throw him a considerable length away.
