If you’re looking for an amazing utility support in League of Legends, then look no further than Nami. Whenever there is a hypercarry ADC in the game, Nami will often be picked to buff them up even further. She is a jack of all trades support as she not only provides great healing and shielding, but also is amazing at disengaging fights with her bubble and ultimate. But what supports are good to play into Nami? Stay with us as we walk you through the five best Nami counters in League of Legends.
The way you counter Nami is through aggressive supports that have hard CC. Champions such as Blitzcrank or Nautilus are amazing champions that expose Nami’s weaknesses. She is a low health utility support, meaning that if she does get grabbed by one of the hook champions, she is in a world of trouble.
If you try to trade with her, she will heal up, so you need to have a support that can all in on the first few levels. Any hook champion will do, but Braum can also counter Nami as he can block her poke and ultimate, which is her primary engage method. But let’s look at the best Nami counters and not just the great ones:

Although normally played in the jungle, Elise is a very good support option and an excellent counter to Nami’s early game in League of Legends. Although Nami is very good at poking, her low health stats make her very squishy early on, so if Elise can get her Cacoon plus Ignite onto Nami, she’s in big trouble. On top of that, in pro League of Legends, the best players in the world have showcased that Elise is an excellent champion for tower diving, as she can reset the turret aggro, allowing for an easy kill onto a defenceless Nami.

Mel is really good at punishing Nami in the early game; this is where she gets the most joy in the laning phase. Even as a support, Mel can do a lot of poke, forcing Nami to heal herself rather than heal her ADC. Although she can’t repel any of Nami’s abilities, Mel has enough movement speed that she should be able to dodge them all without too much trouble.
The key to dealing with Nami as Mel is to keep poking her out of the lane, utilising your passive projectiles whenever possible. Nami ultimately will scale in the late game, but Mel can also snowball thanks to her Overwhelm execute damage.

As stated above, if you’re going to go against Nami, you either need to poke her out of the lane completely or find a champion that has hard CC to make her life a living hell. Maokai not only does a lot of damage in the early game, but he also has hard CC that will punish Nami’s mobility.
Starting with his Sapling, it’s a great tool for zoning Nami. If it were placed in a bush, it would deal double the damage upon detonation. This means that Nami can not be as aggressive as she would like to be. Then there is his Q. If Maokai can get up close to Nami, his Q does a lot of damage and will slightly displace her. And then there is the hard CC, his W, which will root the target upon arrival, leaving them defenceless. And lastly, his ultimate is a wall of brambles that has a large radius and will root any champion hit in place.

Like Maokai, Nautilus provides the same amount of threat to Nami in the early game with his CC. Nautilus is a hook champion, but most of his kit provides enough CC to deal with a squishy utility support such as Nami.
Starting with the hook, the hitbox radius on the ability is uncanny, meaning even angles that look weird will still hook properly. If Nami gets hooked by this ability, she’s as good as dead. Nautilus’s auto-attack passive also roots the target in place. So if the hook wasn’t enough, the auto-attack root will ensure the kill.

Pyke is the most aggressive champion in this list, and that is saying something, given that Maokai and Nautilus are also present. Pyke has only one objective, and that is to kill Nami. He also has a devastating hook, although it is harder to land than Nautilus’s hook. If he can grab Nami however, his E dash ability will stun her in place if he walks through her.
And because Nami is a squishy target, once the ADC gets Nami low enough, Pyke’s ultimate can execute her. This is a great support matchup for Pyke, as he absolutely thrives on going up against ADCs that not only have low health stats, but also low mobility, and fortunately for him, Nami has both of those things even if she’s not an ADC.
